I want to suggest a box/window where you can see the latest posts.
It could also be the latest threads created but I think posts is better.

To understand what I mean, take a look at mmorpg.com, they have the same box/window on the home page. It is very addicting and I post a lot over there even though I don't even play mmorpgs!
This box should be placed on the home page of eurogamer but if there is no room place it at the forum main page.

    Suggestion 2:
It is annoying when I want to make a thread I have to select (scroll to) which section I want to make the thread in. Just now I was in the general site discussion section but when I hit the "make new thread" button I still had to select the appropriate section.

    1. Ban Captain Kid
    2. Ban the use of the word "Addicting".

    Carry on.

We used to have a latest comments page before we had a forum, but since we've had a forum and the various other tools supporting that, that's seemed enough. Disagree?

As for suggestion 2, we have multiple categories in the general site. Perhaps the 'new post' form could default to the current category if you're viewing one specific category in new view, that I wouldn't disagree with, but otherwise I don't understand your point. If you're talking about the new view then I dunno, I don't use that view, but it sounds fair.

Suggestion 2 is only applicable to those types who use that awful "new" forum view.

Isn't it the same with 1 too?

In our lovely "old" view we see all the latest/ recently posted in threads from every category. You even get a cute little notification if a thread has been posted in since your last refresh.

@CaptainKid Why not try changing your forum view to the old "traditional" view?

It must be possible for EG to ban any account which has ever made a post using the word "addicting" without putting it in quote marks. Some might say that's disproportionate to the offence, but I think they'd be getting off lightly. 'Anging's too good for 'em!

    I took a look at mmorpg.com.

Anything that makes this forum less like that one gets my vote.

Indeed. Broadly speaking we like it the way it is - that's why we stay.

/longs for the days when it was all orange

And using the word "addicting", as has been mentioned, should be punishable by death.

Don't do it again, there's a good chap.

I like Addictive but I also like Addicting. So which one is better? There's only one way to find out. FIGHT!

Hmmm, addictive sounds like an adjective, whereas addicting sounds like a verb to me.

Addicting isn't a fucking word, let alone a verb.

Addict as a verb is passive. You become addicted to something.

Something does not 'addict' you to it as that implies action from something where there is none.

There's no sentence where an active structure for 'addict' cannot be improved by making it passive.

Apparently it is a word, and is the present participle of addict.

    "Morphine possesses addicting properties"

It just seems to be a word some people dislike.

    Much like the word squeegee

    Morphine possesses addivtive properties.

Morphine doesn't go out to try and addict people to its properties. Morphine possesses properties which people risk becoming addicted to.

    Not hard.

    OR DOES IT?

Why is it when these "ways to improve the site" threads pop up the ideas are always terrible?

I lurk. If I've spoken to you, I'm either impassioned, or drunk.
