So do you ever bother to google for these every day questions or you just want everyone to do it for you?

    oh fuck off.

why dont you ever take the same amount of time to be helpful, instead of being a cunt? you need to have a think about that.

i'm asking an opinion to a question where there will be multiple answers.

i think google could nullify most threads on this board. get a grip of yourself.

    Several possibilities:
    - two external enclosures for your current HDDs (SATA to USB)
    - a new 1-2TB external HDD
    - a NAS

thought about first one, but am trying to keep USB ports free.

    what is a NAS exactly?

and can you connect them, or a external HDD's to the laptop through wireless or ethernet?

not had great experiences with external HDD's in the past, but that was probably bad luck.

Cloud service or external HDD are your best options.

    i'm not clouding a terabyte!

i did google NAS of course, i got a lot of technical babble.

it looks like a case for hard drives, no? looks like a server thing.

if it was (essentially) just an encasement for multiple HDD's, then surely that'd be the best solution? as then i wouldn't need to transfer anything...

@anthonypappa And if you took the time to google things for yourself there would be 100% fewer insipid threads from you.

that micro server thing seems overkill

not too mention expensive and noisy.

hmm... so is there no way to connect my existing two HDD's (and maybe additional ones) up to my laptop via anything other than USB?

You don't keep the thing next to your PC, you stick it in the garage with the router.

Nothing to do with Elitism. It's a piece of piss to find some of this basic info.

But still: You can get a DLink DNS-320 NAS for about £60. They run on linux and basically you just whap the drives in and you're good to go. They connect to your router via ethernet (or to your home networking by whatever means).

Personally I'd recommend putting a 2tb drive in it, then put one 500gb in, copy the data over, then put the other 500gb in and copy the data over... 500gb drives are pretty small and naff these days. Then add a 2nd 2tb drive.

Oh and, NAS: Network Attached Storage. Basically a box full of hard drives that shares shit over a network. Google, motherfucker.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

It really isn't, a decent NAS cost more than that.

    They are absolutely silent.

Anyway, if you want to do it on the cheap, try this

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Iomega-iConnect-Wireless-Data-Station/dp/B00358V5IK

The problem is that any device like this is really slow and will piss you off.

Put it on your flexible wood bed, next to your cpu fan and all that pomegranate juice.
I thought silence was deadly anyway?

Googling hard drive storage solutions gives you dozens of options. And a link to buy a NAS.

How did heating up those sausages in the Thermos go? I'm genuinely curious.

I bought a thermos recently and there was a piece of paper inside, took me ages to fish it out.

It was the instructions that included the warning "PLEASE REMOVE INSTRUCTIONS FROM FLASK BEFORE USE".

@neilka see the according thread next monday to find out! forgot to buy them in time.

if my full set up works, i'm hoping to use the NAS with laptop and get serato using it. dont know if that would be fast enough.

if not i can put mp3's on the laptop itself, if it's even fast enough...

I assume I missed something from another thread, but why the fuck would you want to heat something in a Thermos? I thought they were for preventing things from changing temperature.
