Starting to ship on the 29th give or take a few days. 1000-1500 units a week. With my 8103 order number I might get mine in late May.

Gotta say, at that point I'm not really much in the vanguard of developers. Almost tempted to just wait for the commercial release - I did have plans to do something with the Rift, but with the constantly shifting goalposts and disappointments it's pretty difficult to plan. Probably going to just sack it off now, which is a shame.

Still - you low order-number heroes are in for a treat I'm sure. :)

Any idea how they're shipping it to you? With the kickstarter stuff I've ordered in the past especially, they tend to use the cheapest international shipping possible, which seems to equate to a skinny guy on a pedalo across the atlantic.

On the postive hand, it does make it a nice surprise when something does eventually turn up.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

OK, we have an exclusive hands-on with Sixense's (makers of the Razer Hydra) Oculus Rift + Hydra demo:

    http://www.roadtovr.com/2013/03/30/gdc-2013-oculus-rift-razer-hydra-tuscany-unity-demo-4401

..it's incredibly compelling stuff and Ben claims it's the most fun he's had in anything VR. We're trying to get details on when / if it's likely released.

Don't forget there's still 50% off the Razer Hydra right now. Go get 'em!

Looks like European orders have begun shipping, my order just updated to 'Processing' from 'Ready'. *vibrates quietly*

Also, somewhat awesomely, Michael Abrash (he of Doom / Quake / Valve fame) totally just registered with our site. *proud*

    What's a Razer Hydra?

If it isn't made by Gillette I bet you'll get a call from their lawyers shortly.

    Arf.

The Hydra's been out for some time now and never really found it's place, but is and will be enjoying somewhat of a renaissance with the advent of the Rift.

And here's us playing with the Oculus Rift + Hydra for probably one of the most compelling demos I've seen for either tech:

Nice summary, but that's completely at odds with reports coming out of NeoGAF (ghosting LCD, massive screendoor effect, motion sickness (esp on the Tuscany demo). I wonder if these dev kits have differing grades of hardware in place?

I don't think you can blame motion sickness on the hardware. It's a feature of sickly children/adult thumbsuckers.

    What's "screendoor effect"?

A kind of ripple in the pixels like you're looking through a fine-meshed screen door. Like wandering around with gauze in front of you, quite annoying.

I think it's the lenses zooming too close to the screen right behind them. I agree that it does make it sound a bit half baked at this stage.

You have to feel a bit embarrassed for the early adopters.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

I'm putting mine next to my Wii U to make it feel better about itself.

A map is like comparing velocity and speed.

? - this wasn't about the Rift specifically, the screendoor and ghosting is highlighted in our Rift hands-on here:

    http://www.roadtovr.com/2013/03/25/oculus-rift-gdc-2013-hawken-tf2-drivr-epi-4263

Screendoor on the 7" panels are most definitely an issue, the ghosting differs per report, but was highlighted by us in our hands-on above.

The screendoor essentially melts away as your brain adjusts, the ghosting not so much but weirdly seems to differ depending on the content. No one's really sure on this as yet.

End of the day .. this is a DevKit, designed to build content. It was never designed as a consumer unit. And for the money is still awesome value for us enthusiasts.

You can feel sorry for me if you like though. :)

They also all use the same 7" panels BTW. As far as we know a least.

Exactly, When Deckard and Dirtbox are shitting on it you know you're onto something good :)

I'm really excited about this, I'm just surprised it has taken this long. I remember trying VR at a videogame tradeshow in the 90s when I was a kid, I was blown away, glad it's gaining momentum :)
