..300 USD. Remember these are Dev Kits though. Final versions are some way off.

..although, the Dev Kits are essentially complete units. The final retail versions will likely have extra features and a higher res panel but probably cost more. You're looking at at least a year lead time for those.

Finally, the initial batch of Kickstarter backers will ship first - no idea when the pre-orders are likely to ship but I'd guess around April - May.

Best start saving, then. About halfway through Ready Player One and I can't say it's done much to lessen my craving for someone's proper crack at VR...

Tell me how early I can buy the final retail version in the UK and how much of a discount I'll get because I post on the same forum as silentbob.

I need an ETA, dammit! Please say this year.

Sly bump for the daytime crowd. Come see us!

As a celebration, we'll also be posting a special video which will be of interest to anyone keen on VR gaming and where it goes in the future. Check back throughout the day (should be live around lunchtime).

Not only did the story get picked up by Engadget:

    ..but Slashdot too:

.. server a wee bit strained.

Well done guys! And, er, get someone to buy your server admin some coffee in the morning.

Still, don't understand what interest gamers have in this tech really - it seems the worst idea since kinect for any number of reasons. But I can see it really being useful in a simulator setting, for emergency situations and the likes. Big money for sure, if they can meet the market requirements.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Hey, I wasn't talking about the Rift - just this holodeck project. I guess people could set up dedicated buildings where gamers can go to play it, a bit like the arcades of old, but without the social aspect, and able to serve far fewer customers at a time. No way are a significant number of gamers going to be able to afford to have a setup like this at home.

..and for those other server admins out there, I had to throw in 4 extra cores and double the RAM on the server to cope with the Engadget and Slashdot referrals! ;)

I could see the military being interested in such a thing for training purposes . Could be intergrated into VBS.
