Incidentally, this is by far the most comprehansive and detailed interview I've yet seen on the Rift. Anyone who still has questions, check this out.

For UK backers I'm going to guess late April/May. US backers I reckon will indeed get theirs around then.

There is nothing in gaming that I am more hyped for.

    This looks promising.

Perception is basically a new stereo 3D driver with 3DOF head-tracking. Although only a handful of titles are supported at the moment, the experience you get with the driver is something that is not possible with current 3rd party options. In particular, it will pre-warp the image to match the Oculus Rift optics, handle custom aspect-ratios (needed for the Rift's strange 8:10 screen), and utilize full 3DOF head-tracking. The plan is to launch in conjunction with the Rift dev-kits, so probably in December 2012.
Mirror's Edge in particular would be pretty awesome and rather vomit inducing.

I'm pretty sure that Mirror's Edge has already been confirmed to be getting a Rift patch...

Oh geez really? I wonder if they'll re-release it as a Special Edition with a ME branded bucket.

A quick Google brings up a number of sites mentioning the same thing I did, so if there is an official patch adding it then EA kept it quiet.

Heh! Indeed, there's no way EA would be jumping in this early.

MTBS3D member 'cybereality' is a bit of a VR stalwart. Mirror's edge was offered as a demo image due to the nature of it's content but you should also be able to find Skyrim shots floating around. That is to say, it's a not a game patch he's offering but a driver that sits on the API stack and does the image pre-warping for you.

Struggling to find any mention of motion sickness in any of the articles or videos I've seen. Except one (this one's for LB):

    http://venturebeat.com/2013/01/14/oculus-rift-is-virtual-reality-that-wont-make-you-barf-hands-on-preview/

..seems the new 1000Hz sensor (now 2ms tracking latency) goes a long to eliminating motion sickness entirely.

The Oculus Rift is The piece of hardware I am looking forward to. It would be a nice bonus if the new console hardware will be up to it, at least in 720p.

Any news on how nearsighted people will fare with these? I see just fine out to about 1 metre, but after that it's Blurry City. Will I be able to use OR without glasses?

I believe it's been reported that you can wear glasses underneat the Rift (unless you're Dame Edna Everage, I assume). I don't know at what focussing distance the Rift optics transpose the screens on to, so I can't say whether you'd need your glasses or not.

I really would like an opportunity to try this out. I introduced a friend to Deus Ex Human Revolution this weekend and when watching him play, all I could think about was how much better this would be if I were completely immersed in the world via VR. The game is already tense and interesting. I think the mix of stealth and action would really suit rift.

2 reports from the show from people wearing glasses with no issues, apparently plenty of room in there unless you're wearing spastic aviators or something. ;)

Cheers. If all else fails I s'pose I could always get a pair of cheap replacement glasses just for OR.

On a related note I'm seriously considering passing up on the next generation of consoles and putting the money towards OR and upgrading my PC instead. Just seems like OR has the potential to deliver a completely new experience, whereas Durango and PS4 will just be... shinier.

But you're not focusing on a screen only a few inches away. Thanks to the lenses you focus on infinity.

Ah, if they do refocus to infinity, anyone who's shortsighted will need to wear their distance glasses with it. All you longsighted old fogies should be fine though.

Edit: @LB It's effecively got longsighted glasses built in to refocus the screens which are actually an inch or two away to a much longer distance (without shrinking them).

Really interesting update from the Oculus Team:

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game/posts

..3 sets of eyecups and a retractable assembly mean glasses / contact wearers are well catered for.

More importantly though, they've completed the first pilot run and are on track to ship in March!! :D
