I don't think you can see Jaws too much. If I'm flicking on telly and it's on, I will invariably watch from that point and love every second of it. It's just the most perfectly paced and balanced film. There isn't a single moment of that film that isn't watchable.
While I totally agree with you, Quint's monologue is clearly the best part of the film. It's like, the rest of the film is a 10, but the speech is an 11.

And is one of a few reasons why the film is better than the book (in which it doesn't feature).

    Another couple of close calls:

Ordinary People and Kramer vs. Kramer. I'd never heard of Ordinary People until very recently, but it totally blew me away when I watched it.

And I know Kramer vs. Kramer is a total tearjerker, but dammit it's good. Bloody love Hoffman during that period.

I can't actually come up with a top ten. Every time I come close to ten I remember something else that needs to be added.

Only thing I can say for sure is that Jaws and Das Boot are on there.

    Naked Gun

    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    La Haine
    Ferris Bueller
    In Bruges
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

I couldn't really think of ten so half the list is just stuff other people have posted which made me think 'oh yeah', I could write an entirely different list every day as others have already said

Here's my shit list of films wot I like. No particular order and that.

    Blade Runner
    Evil Dead 2
    Demolition Man
    This Is Spinal Tap
    Airplane
    Ghostbusters
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Back To The Future
    Gremlins
    Wayne's World

Nothing particularly "deep" in there. I blame my attention span and the fact I had to watch a LOT of incredibly serious films for my degree.

Of course reading the posts that appeared in the time it took me to write mine have lead to several "oh shit, yeah..." moments.

    Absolutely.

Something completely unrelated, what's that pair of sunglasses you have? I was kind of unintentionally stalking you when I was looking in the forum for opinions to the X100 and got to your gallery. I am not sure I look rock'n'roll enough for them, but I want to try them. :D

My top ten list is, as kalel touched on before, pretty much built on whether I would carry on watching it if I flicked over and it was on.

Although, if that’s the criteria, Independence Day should probably be in there somewhere.

I'm the same to a certain extent. That extent being the bit just after where they blow everything up. I'll watch till that point, then switch over. Goldblum is exceptionally annoying.

    The Iron Giant
    The Rocky Horror Picture Show
    Evil Dead 2
    UP
    Santa Sangre
    The American Astronaut
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Belleville Rendez-vous
    Akira
    Metropolis

I love all of those so much I could watch them every day. If you haven't seen the Iron Giant cartoon sort it out.

Tend to agree. There's a great purity to Duel, nothing but tension the whole way through.

Hah! The Devil Wears Prada is my no.1 guilty pleasure film. I've watched it at least half a dozen times, and even though my missus says I like it for Anne Hathaway, it's more because it's like the Karate Kid of the fashion world.

It won't trouble my top 10, but I'll definitely watch it if it's on.

When you can't see the angles on the wall you're in trouble.

    Pulp Fiction
    The Royal Tenenbaums
    Heat

    Ace Ventura 2
    There's Something About Mary
    Memento
    The Unforgiven
    The Big Lebowski
    In Bruges
    The Goonies

First 3 definitely, the rest I'm not sure about.

Though Ace Ventura 2 is the funniest film I've ever seen.

I love that comparison, I hadn't thought of it like that :D Don't worry though, it has Meryl Streep in it. She raises the profile of a lot of films that she's in, so it's OK to like it ;).

I can't believe I'm the only person to mention any of the Terminator films though...

Are you sure it was a picture of me? I'm trying to think of a shot of me in sunglasses in my flickr. There's one of my brother who looks a lot like me wearing some Dolce and Gabbana shades...

Very true, Iron Giant is excellent. Oh and regarding American Astronaut, is that the one with Johnny Depp and some black goo type stuff?
