When HL2 came out it ran on my PC fine. Last night I decided to install the game as I fancied playing it through again. It will not run ? Any suggestions ?

    Error message:
The instruction at “0x11b2247f” referenced memory at “0x0f87b018”. The memory could not be “read”.

    Operating system:
    Windows XP

Meaningless. It works fine on my dad's XP box. Unsupported doesn't mean it no longer works, it means they can't help if it doesn't.

    It's extremely unlikely they're using SP1 anyway.

    Thanks.

Tried the DirectX update - no luck in fixing the problem.

Time to try something else. This is the downside to PC gaming.

It is but a lot of the time you don't get problems. It's only when playing older games or using older bits and bobs that you are more likely to get problems.

What graphics card are you using? What language is Steam itself set to?
Do you have anything like AA / AF enabled on the graphics card's control panel program? (If so, whap these to off/application-controlled)...
