    Yeah, I'm not entirely comfortably with hypnosis as entertainment. Even with the most benign interpretation of what it entails, it is still exploiting (probably impressionable) people in the name of entertainment.

    I was once hypnotized and when I was under they told me all this hypnosis stuff doesn't really work.
    So I remain a skeptic.

    I have always thought it's a bit of a placebo effect. If you believe you can be hypnotized you probably can be.

    Derren Brown gave quite a good explanation of it all in one of his books - its like a lot of people have already said, depends on people's ease of influence/ability to disregard inhibitions etc.
