    Great day yesterday.

Today is going to be a huge one for the GC riders. I'd imagine Tommy will attack again if he has anything at all left in the tank.

You might see Dan Martin trying to make a move today too. He's had a rough enough tour with a sore back from a crash (another rider running into him on the ground) and is on anti-biotics for a chest infection. He reckons he is getting better though and took it easy yesterday in the hope that he can attack the polka-dot today. I can't see it happening really but you have to admire the positivity and determination in a situation where I'd be whinging and having a nice lie down. These people are unbelievable, from the yellow jersey all the way down to last place.

    @joelstinton

Looks like a really tough stage despite being pretty short. Think there'll be some major gaps today. After Voeckler, Voight, Sanchez and Scarponi's massive efforts yesterday I wonder how much they'll have left

    :)

I don't know how Voeckler will feel today- did you see the state of them all in the 'sprint' to the finish? No-one had much left to give.

    Awesome stuff to see.

Aye, its just set up for people to attack each other, should be fun. Wonder if we see nibali and evans work together today.

Agreed. He really tried hard to honour/defend the yellow, even in the hills. Can't ask for more than that.

He has the polka-dot (with no chance at GC) and there are a lot of points available today. He'll be on a break if he can, he'll lose the jersey otherwise.

when i first started watching cycling, cancellara was probably at the height of this form. I can't remember what race it was, but he shot of the front of the peloton and chased down the breakaway, it was some way out, he was a machine, caught up with them and won. real pleasure to watch when his bang on form like that. Must be 2008 or 7 i think it was.

Two big breakaways already, this is going to be fun. Interesting the way Sky have no inclination to send an insurance man into any of these breaks. They clearly feel they're better off staying together as a unit, very different approach from most previous yellow jersey defences.

A pity Cancellara left but he did announce this 2 days ago when interviewed by Sporza. He said the car and heli were ready, as soon as the call came , he'd be off.
From the sound of it though he just decided to go home now because it's getting close to popping time, not because she's gone into labour.

He probably figured skipping a gruesame stage like today is a good idea this close to the olympics. He's got time trial gold to aim for there.

Sporza viewers could also mail in questions. One viewer asked if he has any plans to attack the 1 hour record. He said it's on his radar but nor something to start working towards in the near future. So hopefully in 2 or 3 years he'll have a go.

Voeckler's losing contact with the Maillot Jaune mob already apparently.

Yesterday's heroics must have taken a big toll on him.

Toomy V must burn about 1000 calories a stage just pulling faces. no wonder why his knackered.

    Here we go.

Van Garderen and then Evans attack. Good day from Martin so far too.

Edit: Moinard will surely drop back to help also.

As Eurosport are saying, the crowds are particularly mental this year. Reminds me of the Group B rallying documentary that was on BBC4 recently. I can see there being a major incident that has a bearing on the result before long and I can't see what the organisers can really do about it apart from prosecuting people under some TdF bylaw.

Second place rider looks like the real deal.
  • Deleted user 12 July 2012 17:26:00
yeah it was, some explaining to do, it could be a number of things, i wonder if it was to nullify another attack from nibali, the noise and radio mixed communications etc, or he just decided to go for an attack, but got told off.

but seemingly to be dropped and come back like that!

Early start today kids. Just about to wheel-off.

So what do they call the start of a day's riding that's equivalent to kick-off?

    Départ I think.
Un-official followed by the Official one.
  • Deleted user 13 July 2012 11:29:58
nasty looking one for monticue there. think it be a relatively quiet one today. If nothing happens on the next climb, i think everyone be wanting a nice easy run in. leave it for the likes of sagan, gilbert and if he got any juice eddy boss.
