Skipped 2011 as 2010 annoyed me too much with all those well-known issues it had; I did expect the non-plus-ultra in terms of realism (which AFAIR were promised when it came out). Really miss having a decent F1 game though, so was going to take the plunge regardless of any 7/10 scores. But the above comments make me reconsider...

I'm also worried that the demo's Monza track has more consistent AI behaviour compared to others (remember Catalunya in F1 2010 anyone?) so thought despite the more arcadey handling (I don't have a wheel so would suit me a lot better tbh) this game will provide a much better 'racing' experience at least. This for me was the worst deal-breaker of 2010 and reason why I traded it in pretty quickly.

Bargain bin fodder for me. I have been burnt with 10 and 11 for bugs that don't get fixed.

The reason why hardly no one used it in 11 Was because it was turned off in the first place. I'm sure i had to go into the menu's to turn trye and fuel consumption on. At least could have still given us that element of choice. not get rid of it all together. Like Monty, i enjoyed pushing to see if i could make stragety worked.

Worst of all it makes a key element of the sport, pit stops, utterly pointless.

Edit: Obviously only for those who don't race 100% but that would be the majority of players.

Errm the scary thing is, it isn't broken, according to the devs on twitter its by design no doubt to pander to the more arcade gamers?

Just to clarify, if you have 25 or 50 percent race distance, the tyres don't degrade.

With not being able to drive as your fav driver or with your fav team, doesn't appear to be a good year unfortunately.
Tyres do degrade whenever tyre sim is turned on, however, they will always degrade at the same rate, no matter what race distance you are racing.

So, if you are in a 50% race, Your tyres should degrade at 200% of their normal rate, however, in F1 2012 they still degrade at 100%. So if a set of options last 20 laps of a 100% race, they will still last 20 laps in a 50% race.

They still degrade, the problem is that the degrading doesn't scale.

Steve Hood has posted on the CM forum, addressing a couple of the issues people have had with f1 2012 (FP 1&2 being scrapped and Tyre wear scaling).

    Worth a read.

Removing free practice 1&2 because not many people use it is fucking criminal from a company wanting to make an F1 sim, never mind the tyre wear decision.

    Catering to the masses nonsense.

That is a honking message, the man really does come across as a chump. I can't believe the yarn he spins about his 25% race, a load of tripe to try and justify the corners they've cut. I really can't wait until the F1 licence is taken up by another team.

I really can't believe his audacity, "we care. I care", yet not enough to patch a broken game eh?

What I don't get is why adding (well, keeping in) practice sessions is such a big piece of work. Copy Qualifying, make it more like Time Trial, done?

I've been through quite a lot of console F1 racing games over the past years, and always ended up switching off tyre wear and fuel consumption after I realised quickly enough they didn't scale properly. So I'm kind of used to ignoring it but you would think that with today's tech this wouldn't be such a problem.

I'll wait for the first impressions by other gamers before making a decision, been burnt too many times by empty promises of realistic F1 racing.

Agreed. It can't be nice being sent abusive messages, I get that, but it was a very arrogant and, as you implied, mostly fabricated post.

And their product has been broken for two years, so I have very little sympathy for him.

I just got to the checkout at ShopTo then found out about the tyre wear scaling. No sale; Codemasters can fuck off.

I just had a quick flick through the front page of that forum, the posts about bugs are just starting. If you're buying the game then one in particular I'd keep an eye on is the complaint that AI changes to option tyres in the rain. Classic Code masters if true.

Codemasters' racers are the type of games where the next-gen can't come quick enough.

The sad thing is I really can't see any other developer doing a better job with the F1 licence than Codemasters has, only EA and Activision would realistically bid for it.

Hmmm, been playing for a bit now. Things I've noticed...
There's an odd bug where if you use flashback it tends to wreck your engine, to the point of exploding.
Damage is pretty awful, got it on "full" damage, and though the wings come off easily you can play pinball with your car and the circuit and only lose the front wing.
AI still has issues overtaking the player, even when you're on the racing line they have a job realising they don't have to drive into your rear right/left tyre then break loads at the last second.
Other than that I think I need to play a bit more, physics seem good (apart from the damage)

Played a couple of career races today after getting the golds on the young driver test and it seems very difficult. I can't keep the car on the track most of the time and when i do I'm several seconds away from my teammate.

It's good apart from the monumental difficulty, but it's starting to dent my enthusiasm for it tbh. Might try turning it down to amateur.

@lordofdeadside Are you playing with any assists turned on? Sounds like you could do with some Traction Control, at least until you get the hang of it.

@KingOfSpain Yeh, I all assists except braking and traction control on medium, going to try bumping it up to full.

@lordofdeadside You on a wheel or pad? I find it's much easier to easy onto the throttle when using my wheel. I usually stab at the triggers when I'm on the pad, and I always end up spinning!

You play any of the previous versions?

Woah! Just put traction control on full and went P1 in practice (Force India), amazing how much difference there is between medium and full!

It feels a lot better, time to up the AI, I'd rather have tougher opponents and be able to stay on the track I think!

I'm using the pad and I played '10 but not '11.
