189.99 for the 16GB from HMV is very tempting.

Will Amazon be selling this thing in the near future?
Surely if Amazon aren't then their preferred merchants and general third parties on there will be. But I doubt you'll beat that 190 from HMV. Might go on their site and have a look myself tomorrow. Would student discounts apply to products like this?

That Google Now looks ridiculously good for a lazy shit like me. Th amount of times I'm sitting on the couch with my housemate and we're wondering what actors have been in what films etc. Now I don't even have to lift a finger! I think I'll get one next week.

@brokenkey I wonder how many get broken by people getting frustrated with the packaging and hacking away at it with a sharp implement.

Oh right, I was under the impression it was in the shops now. Oh well, I'll probably be over the need for one in a couple of weeks.

Apparently Currys have them in stock on their website now. Not heard anything from Google since I ordered.

HMV are saying July 23rd from an inside source. I'm going away on Sunday so hopefully the 21st is more accurate - will be in town to look.

Yeah, I've given up on them. I'll pick one up down the high street.

In no rush myself but it was holding up my other items on ebuyer, so I removed it and ordered from Dixons this morning. Just received an email saying it's dispatched for delivery tomorrow.

So if anyone's eager their site says they still have stock and you can order before 3.30 for delivery tomorrow.

Given the fact that cheap Android set top boxes are likely to be part of the future I might forgive the lack of hdmi and cave on this.

One thing I'm wary of is that the battery isn't replaceable, seems like a pretty big problem considering how quickly batteries start to lose their quality.

And how quickly is that exactly?

I find most batteries tend to start losing their maximum capacity after around a year of use, by two years they struggle to hold a meaningful charge. That's my personal experience, hence my concern.

I'd imagine most people will have upgraded to some newer model long before the battery packs up.

Doesn't tally with my own. My iPhone 4 is over 2 years old and charges and holds charge just fine. Before that, 3G was the same. Additionally my Galaxy Tab doesn't exhibit anything like what you describe.

You may want to change your charging habits (i.e. full charge and where possible drain to minimum).

    PICNIC I feel. ;)

I'd like to upgrade my shitty 7" Android for one of these. However the Nexus is thicker, heavier, has no micro-SD slot and more importantly :) doesn't have a kickstand. The processor would kickass though.

I need to have a think, cool story etc..

Isn't draining to the minimum actually quite bad for modern batteries? I thought with lithium ion batteries the point was to charge whenever needed and not to reduce the battery to nothing.

Personally I find all my batteries quite worthless after a couple of years. On my old 3G I remember the manual staying that the maximum capacity of the battery would be reduced to around 80% after around 300 full cycles. 200 is a lot of money for me and I doubt I will want to simply chuck a device after a couple of years.

Looks like I may be waiting another week to pick it up from a bricks+mortar shop. July 27 said to be the high-street date.

If i didn't have an hmv gift-card loaded then i'd go with Tesco.

Mine was just delivered -ordered from Tesco yesterday morning. Cancelled my HMV order due to the slipping delivery date.

I haven't got a touch-screen phone to compare it with, but it feels really easy to use, feels solid, very nice screen. For the price its great.

Played with a friend's today (..) - nice, solid build quality with a good (although not fabulous) screen. 4.1.1 is nippy and the tab's configured as a sort of halfway house between a tablet and phone (pulldown notifications etc.).

It's a lovely bit of kit for the money, but I am glad I held off buying in favour of sticking JellyBean on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. This version of android breathes new life into older devices.
