Registered 10 years agoVery interested in buying the Nexus (bit put off by some of the hardware complaints here) but have read that Comixology doesn't run properly on it - particularly in guided view.
Anyone able to comment on this? Reading comics would be one of my main uses for it, so a problem here would probably put me off completely. -

Dont get the 8GB. The 'usable' space left is tiny (unless you plan to not have video or music on it).
8GB or 16GB? Hoevering toward the 8 as all my music is on my phone so this wont be used for that probably. -

Registered 9 years agoSale on Google play store at the moment. Just picked up world of goo and dungeon village for 25p each. Think it's different apps every day too. I chose a great time to start spending my free credit. -

Plus Ipad 1 is getting long in the tooth. -
I'm waiting for my Nexus 7 8gb to be delivered. Unfortunately no tracking available on the TNT website, so I think it will be tomorrow now

Am looking at the ebooks on offer, anyone got any recomendations? The Manhatten in Reverse by Peter F Hamilton looks like good value for money, it's several short sci-fi stories I believe. -

Registered 10 years agoPicked one of these up cheap in the US. Love it. Was initially hard to justify as I have an iPad 2 but have to say that the form factor, jelly bean and speed cause me to have no regrets. It also helps that I'm a heavy user of Google's services.
I lucked out in that I bought it on last day before $25 credit offer ran out.
Any other suggestions for apps from seasoned nexus users? -

Registered 9 years agoWhat I'm rocking on mine:
Perfect Viewer for comics
TV Catchup for streaming free view
Nexus Importer (+USB otg cable) for USB streaming
Netflix if you're subbed (hack DNS to get the American content)
TuneIn Radio Pro is brilliant
MXPlayer to watch avi, mkv etc
Super Gnes for SNES emulation (with a control pad if you've got the OTG cable)
Facebook so you can stalk girls you once knew.
Kingsoft Office to open and edit Office docs
Dropbox to increase your storage.
Swiftkey 3 Tablet - awesome replacement keyboard
Worth going into google maps and saving an offline version of your city - you can then activate the GPS and use your Nexus as a sat nav.
Also I read that, like the iPad, the Nexus 7 has a standby on/off magnetic strip. It can sometimes be fiddly to bring it out of standy (no front button) but get a case with a magnetic closer and that problems solved. Also the case can act as a stand.
Game wise check out Agent Dash and Dead Trigger - both free and both show what the Tegra3 is capable of. Also get Radiant Defense also free.
Paid for games with google play credit: RomeTW battles, Rayman Jungle Run (amazing), World of Goo, Broken Sword, Osmos HD and Zookeeper - obviously.
Also pay for "ultimate rotation control" app - it lets you use the home screen in landscape orientation.
Get some widgets on the go too - I've got by with all the free ones.
You should be able to get all the above with your play store credit and still have some loose change. -

Registered 10 years agoHas be nexus imo. I had a look at the kindle fire but it looked like I'd have to root/hack it to get the most out of it. Nexus is more open and you get the newest versions of Android the quickest.
I've used perfect viewer for comics. works well enough. -

Personally I would get this, it has excellent reviews, and the kindle fire HD doesn't run Android on its own, so you are limited to apps on the amazon app store, whereas with this you can just get the kindle app anyway.

Registered 4 years agoYeah the restricted nature of the Fire gives me major concern for software compatibility and stuff. I'm not technically proficient enough to root it and be confident I know what I'm doing so this might be the way to go. -

Registered 9 years agoIf you get a USB otg cable you can use memory sticks but it's read only unless you root the device. -
it doesn't have an SD card slot?
damn, did not know that. -
