    Razer Orochi.

Haven't used it with a nexus but it's a great mouse

Do I need any special equipment to connect a memory card reader to a Nexus 7?
Will a bug standard USB cable do?

@Tonka you need a USB OTG cable and I might be wrong but I think you also need root as well.

Cheers. SO an OTG cable is somehow different from what I use to charge my phone?

Your memory card reader probably has a full-size USB connector, so the OTG cable converts the micro-USB port on the phone to a normal USB port.

I think you only need root to write to the card. If you're only reading from it, you don't need root access. I think.

    excellent.

I'm thinking about getting a Nexus 7 to edit videos on and I just need a convenient way to get the images from the card to the device.

    My Nexus is bricked
    Crying over lost photos
    Factory reset

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Should be easy enough to un-brick. Did you have google upload enabled (default on google plus). If so, they're in a secretish folder on your google+ account/drive

Yeah I was about to say ... should be auto backed-up in the cloud.
    Google + > Photos > Auto-backup

No, I tend not to do auto-uploading.

Factory reset should unbrick it but then I will lose the data. It's the one thing I never backed up. In the grand scheme of things I have thousands of photos from other sources so can't really complain but still... :(

I think it just got too low on power and it got stuck trying to do something that it couldn't manage. It died, I plugged it in and then it just got stuck on the X-screen and never loaded up again. No amount of powering up or running down changes this, it is just stuck.

Have been in the bootloader thing, have done the Wugfresh toolkit thing but we never selected USB debugging in the developers options so it cannot be reached.

/Checks Dropbox. Phew. Don't trust Google+ with my photos.

Very much looking forward to my N7 on  Christmas day... Who cares that it's not a surprise!

Don't let it run out of power!

Also, switch USB debugging on in the developer options area of settings. If you don't see have this option, apparently you can do settings->About tablet and tap 7 times on the build number.

edit: Urgghhhh. Just found a strange little backdoor option but since the device was never rooted, it did a backup that contained no data. I am sad. OK, factory reset here I go.

Oh, I think there's a reboot key combo for your ailment, but I can't recall what it is - there's this vid but that might just be for non-stock roms.

Hopefully flashing a different rom won't do a full wipe. The trick to watch for when going between rom versions (cyanogen versus stock etc) is to remove your screen unlock before flash. I forgot to do that once and couldn't unlock. :)

Too late now, sadly, 'tis done. I spent a good few hours trawling for solutions last night and today but people far more techy than me were giving up and factory restoring, so I just took the bullet.

Got a Nexus 7 V2 on its way. Anyone got any recommendations on a case/cover? How well to the case/stand hybrid things work? Would I be better off getting a separate case and stand?

What's this animosity towards G+ and photos? You guys are missing out on all the cool Auto Awesome stuff.

    Make it stop.

I finally decided to try using Hangouts as my default SMS app. What is the point? I don't understand what the upside is supposed to be. It isn't bad, just...why?

Yep, it doesn't seem to be smart enough to auto change delivery method ala iMessage so I'm really not sure of the advantage of hangouts.

The advantage of Hangouts is that it isn't a part of the Android bundle so that google can stick this in the App store and let people download it and use it instead of what TC, Samfuckingrubbishsung et al dream up.

But yeah. Some smartness to it would be nice.

However. Living in a bordertown I know about the issue with roaming that iMessage causes. Real niche use case but frustrating to those who encounter it.

My brothers wife works in Denmark and has roaming turned off. iMessage thinks she would prefer to get my brothers messages delivered via the internet so re routes his SMSes. That means she won't get any messages he sends until she gets back to Sweden

I picked up a Nexus 10 yesterday. Absolutely loving it - one of the only tables I've ever played with that is as good, if not better, than an iPad. Any recommended apps?

Not fond of the hangout thing.
I've struggled to send an sms because when clicking "new" and typing the name of my contact, who is saved as a contact on my phone , no match comes up.
    Bloody annoying.

I also received 2 messages in google chat last night which I completely assumed to be text messages of course.

Meh. KitKat is a disappointment for me overall.
Still a bit buggy and it won't fucking remember when I told it to use a certain app by default half the time.

Camera is Waaaay better since the last update though.

I use Flipboard and Flixster far too much, as well as loads of Football Manager.

Basically anything starting with F it seems.
