Hi. Building a new rig and need some advice on the gfx card and ssd.

First the gfx card. Ideally I would like a GTX-670, but can't afford one atm. So looking for something mid range around the 150-200 mark. With a view to upgrading in 12 months or so. I was thinking the Asus GTX 570. But If I do upgrade to a 670. Is it worth getting the 570 at 200?

Also is a 32GB SSD big enough to run the just OS from(win7)?. Trying to save a bit here. I can add a 120GB later for games ext... But will make do with my 500GB HDD I have now for the time being.

Here's the rest of the build.

    AsRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 Motherboard
Core i5-3570K CPU 3.40GHz, Ivy Bridge CPU
Corsair CL 9 Main Memory 8 GB 1866 DDR3 RAM
OCZ OCZ600MXSP-UK ModXStream Pro 600W PSU
    Inwin MaNa 137 Midi Tower

Anyone suggest a decent heatsink fan?

    Cheers.

Depends. Are you looking to take advantage of Obama's recently relaxed approach to ultra deep drilling in the Caribbean, or are you a more cutting edge shale gas fracker, in which case you should have a word with the Canadians aboot this.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

I find that going to events organised by this website are often quite useful for building rigs

No, 32GB isn't big enough to run just your OS on.

As for the graphics card this RPS article might be helpful to you.

    Also, Riglol.

I've not read any of the responses so far but I'll be diappointed if a single one of them have failed to ridicule you for using the term "rig".

I like it. It's rugged and manly. Like, when he's done gaming he's going to save kids from fires.

    Well thank Christ for that.

Further to Crispy's excellent point; I would say it is essential to go liquid cooled ESSENTIAL.

Couple that huge cooling system with an even bigger window and more LED strips for the ultimate in PC sex magnetry.

You also have to wear a truckers hat while operating it.

@WrongShui Yeah I thought as much. I'll spend the extra and get a 120GB.

Thanks for the link as-well. That was very informative. I have a better idea of what to go with now.

As for the rest of you clowns. You've all been exceedingly helpful. Thank you.

I had a 60gb ssd for windows but it was such a pain shuffling programs on and off the ssd that I gave up. Now it is used as a cache drive thanks to Intel z68 chip set, never looked back.

While not technically as fast as pure os ssd the great thing is all programs can benefit. If want pure ssd then I agree 120gb really is the minimum.

I'd go for the 44" Hugo Boss, you could add scotchguard too for extra protection from external malwear.

No ordinary user will ever need more than 38". Anything else is overkill

Get a 560 ti 448 core, it's about level with a 570 on most games and costs about 50 less.

I read this as "new wig advice" and am therefore highly disappointed with the suggestions to date.

    Frostytech for cpu cooling advice.

You may want to consider a 2500K if you're going for extreme overclocking. Although if it's purely for gaming, then there really isn't any need to over clock any of the sandy or ivy bridge i5s.

There is no point to a 32GB SSD when there's only a 5 difference for a 64GB. Similarly there's only a 25-30 difference between a 64GB and 128GB SSD. you may as well go for the 128GB at that price differential.

The Samsung 830 is the best current consumer SSD. The 128GB version is 78 from that link.

I think 'Plant' should take on, as in 'Plant Hire' or Power Plant or 'Processing Plant'

"Powered up the Gaming Plant tonight and rocked some Warhead"

Yeah. Anything with more than 1000W should be plant.

Ehhh now I'm thinking 'Cheese Plant' it doesn't work at all :(

Plant should catch on, it conjures up images of a room sized, coal powered, steam spewing, Victoria era monstrosity. The power would be measured in pressure rather than watts and underpaid oiks rounded up from the local gin houses would be shovelling the coal.

That's it! That's what I'm talking about! The boiler room of a Dreadnaught after 'all ahead - full' is called. Fire up the plant. Or a PC described in terms that'd remind anyone of the set of Alien 3.

Even though it's just a computer in a tinny box that enables you to play games or tweak spreadsheets. It's still your plant.

Cheeseplant is ruining it for me however.
