    Teaser 1
    Teaser 2

Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. Jonny Greenwood doing the score again, like for There Will Be Blood.

Plot outline: A charismatic intellectual (Hoffman) launches a religious organization following World War II. A drifter (Phoenix) becomes his right-hand man but as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the drifter finds himself questioning the belief system and his mentor.

I've only just seen the trailers and had to make a thread (did a search but couldn't find anything). The teasers look absolutely brilliant, and the plot outline makes me think this is going to be something very special.

As long as it's better than Event Horizon.

Some people wil say it's amazing, and others will say it's amazingly pretentious.

I will c+p this comment int all future PTA film threads.

Oooh. I quite liked that first trailer with Joaquin Phoenix in it. Sounds as though Johnny greenwood is doing the score again. Nobody is better at capturing unbalanced people than PTA. I mean look at Punch Drunk Love.

As long as it's better than Event Horizon.
    Different Anderson.

Yeah that was uber-hack Paul WS Anderson. Some people think Event Horizon was his one good film, but those people are wrong; it's shit too.

Paul Thomas Anderson directs good (but often pretentious) movies.

I am not sure if anyone in this thread was actually confusing the two, but I have a pathological need to explain things.

I'm actually quite interested in this film, but more for how the scientologists are going to respond than for the film itself. Isn't it another Citizen Kane, but with Hubbard instead of Hearst?

I thought Joaquin stopped acting and grew a beard.

That was for I'm Still Here, a mockumentary from a few years ago that was, by all accounts, awful.

    Reaction from a surprise screening.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Yeah, "maybe everyone's forgotten Andy Kaufman by now so let's do it again and pretend it's new".

This is out now (at least in America, not sure if it's out here yet), which I've only just realised. Seems to be doing very well in the early reviews. Currently 88 from 6 on Metacritic.

    Very excited to see it.
