Windows 8 Pro (Intel / Fully fledged) will be, Windows 8 RT (ARM based - Metro-ised Windows) probably won't.

Registered 8 years agoI was honestly surprised to wake up and see that the entire tech world was not laughing their collective arse off at Microsoft. Long way to go yet, but it'll be interesting to see how this does. If it's really successful, would we see Microsoft building more and more of their own hardware? -

Registered 10 years agoThe Pro version yes. Which'll cost as much as an Ultrabook. RT will be limited to applications that support 'Metro' mode (and compiled for ARM presumably). The latter priced nearer the iPads of this world. Int truth, I suspect this is where it'll all fall apart - pricing.
It's a balancing act for MS, they really can't afford to piss off their OEMs who will also be manufacturing tablets based around Windows 8. Having said that, having a flagship product for the new OS is definitely a wise move - set's expectations for consumers and hopefully keeps the OEMs shooting high.VR Guff: www.roadtovr.com (NEW site now live!)

I was being a bit silly but I honestly think this is a bit dopey. Pro version weighs almosy 1kg and doesn't seem to have a dedicated gpu. As I've said elsewhere there are ultrabooks coming out with ivy bridge and nvidia gpus in the 1.5kg bracket. at this point with the price of both being the same why would you go for one of these over an ultrabook?
It's a stupid comment.
This does indeed look rather sexy.
I'm also yet to be convinced about windows 8 having good appstore compared to ios, I'm not hugely impressed with the android appstore store after switching to android on my phone

That's what it will all come down to though - price. If this is significantly cheaper than the ultrabooks and competitive with the iPad then it will do very well indeed.Lexx87 wrote:

As for the Apps, all much of a muchness if you ask me. Most are available on all platforms (albeit eventually), iOS just has better games. -

Registered 7 years agoFinally! They may well have taken their sweet time, but this actually looks okay. A tablet with a full OS that does not look like Fisher Price made for 'special kids', and some decent IO...and they are building it... well I wonder where they got that idea from. The smart cover keyboard will either be absolute genius or like typing on a ZX81. Oh, and Steam on a tablet, with a USB for that 360 controller - woot! -

On the Metro apps front...shouldn't these explode into being after the release of Windows 8?
It's going to be the number 1 OS in the world so devs would develop for it as a no brainer wouldn't they?Come and get it cumslingers!
