Yeah, I just doubt - seriously doubt - MS can convince anyone to spend that type of money.
But you'll still buy one then want to return it after a week. :D
heh, nah i wont. i'm more than happy with my ipad it totally fills my tablet hole. I don't believe in Windows 8 as a tablet infrastructure until i see it working and the appstore moving. The android tablet appstore has been up for 2 years and it still nowhere near the ios appstore in terms of dev support.

    for 1200 i want a proper laptop.

Just waiting for the pro specs,3G not bothered about .If I'm really desperate for Internet connection and there isn't a wifi zone, then just tether it to my phone which has unlimited data allowance

The leak is some random Swedish retailer. It's just a guess. Things are fucking expensive in Kroner anyway.

How would the RT variant work with old printers ?

If it doesn't let you install non Metro stuff such as the printer software does that mean your out of luck ? Unless there is some magical ARM driver wizardry that doesn't involve the manufacturers.

Pro model isn't until next year I think.
  • Deleted user 26 July 2012 21:20:03
Isn't RT supposed to be for tablets anyway? Do any of the current tablets support printing? I imagine it'll be cloud-based stuff like Google Print.

    I'd probably pay that.

Edit - Wait... Engadget? They're probably just saying it costs that much so everyone whines about it when it ends up being $250.

If, if, if, that is the case, then would it be safe to assume the PRO version could be around $400, which makes it an instabuy for me.

Seems unlikely that it will be anywhere close to that price 4-500e for the rt i would guess.

Based on that the pro prices will probably be around $999, similar to Ultrabooks as predicted then

no big shocks there, but well out of impulse buy territory for me.

I am still hoping for a 7" windows 8 slate from somewhere.

Bah, too rich for my blood.

Also, based on that advert I'm probably not good looking enough to use one.

Yeah, too expensive for me to try out on a whim.
I'll stick with Windows 7 laptops/ultrabooks for now until the Surface prices drop substantially.

They seem to be matching iPad prices

    16GB iPad - $499
    32GB Surface - $499

    32GB iPad - $599
    32GB Surface with touch pad - $599

    64GB iPad - $699
    64GB Surface with touch pad - $699

Going by that, possible UK prices.

    32GB Surface - 399
    32GB Surface with touch pad - 479
    64GB Surface with touch pad - 559

Surface also comes with Office 2013.

Pricey but some value there. Not really impulse buy for me though.

What with VAT and other bollocks charges, it's going to be around 400 in real money. Most people will just buy an iPad.

Is that a proper edition of Office or some nonsense cut down version? Having a dinky thing that does office and has a proper keyboard might be quite good actually. Absolutely no way I can justify it at that price, but would be tempted if I needed to replace my laptop.

Pricing it the same as the iPad is a huge mistake. The consumer confusion that's going to come up with the whole

    Is it windows?
    Yes, but RT.
    What's RT?
It's like windows, but it won't run windows programs.
    So it's not windows?
    Not really.
Fcuk it, I'll take one of those ipads over there.

At least if they'd put it into impulse buy territory it might have suckered a few people in.
