Not if it's not recompiled for ARM and you owned a Windows 8 RT tablet you couldn't. Which is sort of the point here.

It would not melt anyway due to the revolutionary perimeter venting system.

Since the i5 and i7 both use the HD4000 on board GPU, the difference in any visual performance is likely to be negligible.

An i7 would be hotter, more expensive and no faster for 99% of uses. The benefit of an i7 in a desktop (or high end laptop) are the hyper-threads for video editing and encoding. Not exactly a tablets main strength there.

The idea of diablo 2 on a tablet is neat, but I can afford to replace a tapped out left mouse button. Not sure I could afford to replace a HD touch screen that's been tapped to death ;)

Was all set to buy an iPad 3 this week, but now I like the look of this thing.

Question is, will it have Baldur's Gate? (As that was the line that tipped the iPad from interesting to MUST HAVE territory for me.)
Get your iPad dude, there's nothing definite today as to what will and will not be available for Windows tablets. You can still check out Surface 2 in a year or two.
    Good point.

Get the iPad 3 now, then upgrade to whatever is best in 2 years is the way to go.

/Will buy iPad tomorrow, and reviews of Baldur's Gate will come out day after giving it 2/10 as unplayable.

As someone who has bought every iPad thus far and still champions the very thing to this day, this is actually not only a surprise from a company who is 99% software focused, it is a wonderful piece of kit that ... *shock, horror* ... makes me want it!

    Top marks to Microsoft.

They have my attention and I genuinely hope Surface starts at an attractive price of 399, just like iPad is.

What's the betting Apple are working on a similar SmartCoverKeyboard?

That multitouch solid state keyboard seems like a nice trick, though I wonder how much better than an on-screen keyboard it is to use. Meanwhile I really can't see the point of the one with keys. It's going to be far worse than even my cheapo bluetooth keyboard in terms of key travel, and heavier than the multitouch keyboard and more bulky.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

If MS were smart, they would just label the WRT version as "Surface" and the x86 version as "Surface Pro".

It certainly simplifies things for the lay people. "Surface covers all of your normal tablet needs. However if you want one for business and professional use, get the Surface Pro."

    Simple, no?

    Makes sense to me!

I already want one of these but I'm still confused. Is RT a totally different/closed OS in the vain of IOS which will keep it virus free?

Yeah, sort of. RT is for ARM devices and as Windows has never supported that before, it's a clean slate, no x86, x64 basically all stuff you have on your current Windows, old and new will not be supported.

The Windows RT desktop only supports a handful of programs outside of the Metro initiative like MS Office for example, it's pretty much locked down to MS stuff and even then only when they have to.

Programs made for Metro will work with Windows 8 and RT.

Aye, very much like iOS rather Android which allows side loading.

Interesting to see that MS has done a great job of losing the awful reputation for security that they used to have.

Am I the only one confused by the whole Windows 8/Metro/RT thingy?

    @Fab4

    Nope!

From what I gather, Metro is the interface and RT is version of Windows 8 that only allows stuff from the W8 Marketplace. I think.

IMO unless you can afford the Pro version I wouldn't bother with the other version at all as the ipad will continue to walk all over things like it.

Going to try and convince the boss that a tablet with stylus will be very usefull for our after sales team. Now we have to print out a form and make our clients sign that, it'd be cool if they could just sign on the tablet and send it straight to our servers.

Mowgli says a lot of things.
The thing is, we use MS CRM, so a tablet that runs win8 would be easy to implement.
Don't even know what OS the galaxy note is running.
