This is the first time I haven't been tempted by an Apple product in blooming ages!

    Yay me ... : )

Is this a rhetorical question? If it's not, then for everyday use the 999 one, for CPU-intensive tasks the 1249 one, and they would both be equally shit for games.

    Any mention of ATV?

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

It wasn't rhetorical no. Anyway in the meantime, I have ordered a 1249 one with 128GB SSD.

Best of both :-) You'll just have very little space for porn.

:-) that's cool. I'm thinking about storing everything (not porn!) on a NAS drive anyway. I'm hoping that SSD will mean even more speed boost.

As it happens, I just installed an old (2009) 64GB SSD in my MBP for tests today. I won't be keeping it, as it's way too small, but it's fun watching everything just appear almost instantly. So yes, the speed boost is qute something.

Cool! Good to know. Despite the relatively small size of 128GB, I couldn't bring myself to buy one the the latest bits if tech with a normal HDD.

I was thinking of sticking a 128GB one in my 4 year old MBP and getting a cheap IPad (Only costs me 70 quid or so due to vouchers) to keep my living room browsing/computing going cheaply.
Is it really *that* much faster?

SSD are that much faster. I've got one in my MBP. As soon as you type in the password everything's up. Same with shutdown. I've moved off all my iTunes and iPhoto to an external TB HD which will eventually go into a SSD Thunderbolt. But when they were on the SSD, it just made me smile when I opened them up.

Things like X-Plane 10 and Diablo 3 get up and running rapid style.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Anyone going for the Retina MBP? Looks amazing but 1800 for a laptop is unjustifiable for me. I don't really need the spec.

The spec seems pretty much the same as the older Pros, from what I can see. So it's just the retina display and smaller + lighter form factor that you're paying that much extra for.

There's not that much between the low-end Retina MBP and the top-end 15" MBP, they both cost the same and the only benefit of the older style is a slightly faster processor and 500GB of extra drive space (plus the optical drives and ports). Decisions, decisions :(

@PhoenixFlames - did you buy a custom MBP with Apple's SSD? You could probably save some cash by buying an SSD and upgrading yourself.

Yes. Wasn't sure how easy it was to upgrade the drive myself...could've checked I suppose. Nevermind, I happy with the choice. Can't wait to get my grubby hands on it! :-)

Good to still have an optical drive too.

    I checked Apple's price and 80 for a 128GB isn't too bad actually, seen a few 128GBs on offer for 69-79 recently.

256GB and 512GB is a rip off though, much cheaper to buy and fit them yourself (400 vs 740) ;)

    My thoughts exactly!

Too much social network malarkey for a start and not enough on the general aesthetics and appearance on an already long overdue UI refresh.

It is so boring looking at nothing but icons...!

My (work) MBP might be falling off even more tables now.;-) Unfortunately the battered old thing seems nigh on indestructible...

This! No matter how sexy the new iPhone will be, since owning one since the 3G I'm just bored of IOS. My contact is up and despite a slight niggle that I should maybe wait to see what windows mobile 8 looks like, I'm all but sold on a shiny new Galaxy S3 or One X. Talking with an unusually helpful rep in one of the phone shops, he mentioned that where once upon a time everyone wanted an iPhone, he's finding more and more people like myself tempted into buying there first android phone, it could be just sales banter but I can believe it.

iOS6 just leaves me cold, SIRI....outside showing off to non iPhone users, does anyone actually use it? And as for Facebook integration, that's fine but it's no big deal... as others have said, for the power of the phone and I'm guessing the next iPhone will be a beast, the OS needs a proper refresh aside from some admittedly big tweaks and additions this is still the same OS that launched with the original iPhone.

Yeah. As nice as the new maps look they really need to sort the borked icons in ur face interface

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Just watched the keynote - there's a lot there that really impressed me. It's all incremental stuff these days (well, aside the new MBP) but there's some very nice polishing of ios/osx and that new map app does look absolutely amazing!

:) perhaps a little. But they probably have readers to feed.

I'm not sure if I'm going to sell my "Formally" top spec Air for one if the new skinny MBP.

I'd like to think I'd get >1k for it (immaculate/boxed etc...) which would probably meaning I'd have to find ~500...

    Hummm... :/

think I have to buy a retina MBP. Just have to decide whether to go for the base model or the one with more storage.

If Western Digital (or any of the others) can pull their finger out an give us a MyPassport style Thunderbolt SSD or HDD, then the lower spec RetMBP will be the one for me.
