Hmm. Will be interesting to see how they fit in the Iron Patriot thing into IM3, especially if Coldblood is taking the role - who has always been a hero in the comics.

If the rumours about Kingsley playing Mandarin turn out to be correct, that will at least tie up some of the subtle danglers.

I hate how it's impossible to avoid hype about films so far before they're released.

    That does look shit though.

You know what Aargh I was just saying that the other day.

    Shame Sir Ridley isn't directing.

    Beautiful tender beings.

Due to an administrative error, Ridley Scott is playing Pepper Potts this time around.

Iron Patriot is interesting. Obviously won't be Osborn in the suit though. Not sure who Coldblood is.

    Coldblood

    Firepower

Not sure why they went for such obscure character over more recognisable IM villains like Blizzard, Living Laser, Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, etc.

Madame Masque would have been an interesting villain, given her romantic ties. Ghost would have been interesting too.

You say "more recognisable", but I haven't a clue who any of them are. I don't think Iron Man really has any enemies who are household names.

Not household names no, but to Iron Man fans who are familiar with his rogues gallery, even they will be asking "who the fuck is Coldblood?" because he isn't even a villain in the comics and is distinctly Z-list.

They probably went with obscure characters because they fit with the story rather than just making a story fit some characters.

No one has heard of them. No one who saw the first or second had heard of the bad guys in those either.

Sounds like lots of robot men vs iron man then he'll get his nanotech suit and win.

That's basically the plot of Iron Man 2, isn't it?

    @Aargh.

Well most iron man fans knew who Ironmonger and whiplash were. The problem with iron man is that his rogues gallery isn't as iconic as, say, spider man. And that's not helped by his involvement with the avengers. Captain America is another with a really weak rogues gallery.

Apart from the nano suit, he has a magic beam and magic explosion thing instead with no sense of threat to him.

Bad guy from the first film. So ben kingsley will just replay the hood from thunderbirds... Think I'll wait for avengers 2 for my iron man fix.
  • Deleted user 31 May 2012 08:39:50
Bad guy from the first film was a business man with a big stompy suit. They never once referred to him as IronMonger so familiarity clearly doesn't matter much.

The problem with iron man is that he is important within his own universe and the avengers, but no one really gives a shit about his ongoing adventures.

As such his villains roster consists of boring, evil men using his own armour against him or gaylords like the living lazer, neither of which anyone gives a shit about (as seen by the fact that no one really realised jeff bridges was playing his biggest memesis, thus not giving the entire plot away in the first 30 seconds of the movie)

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    He totally called it

    http://screenrant.com/iron-man-3-marvel-studios-comic-con-2012-rob-185642/

    From IGN

Marvel screened about 5 or so minutes of footage (twice!) for fans. The clip began with Tony Stark playing with his new toys. His thought-controlled armor as he only has to gesture at his armor and/or give Jarvis a verbal command for the pieces to come flying at him. (We saw a bit of this in action in Avengers, remember?) That bit ends with a hero pose of Tony in his new silver and crimson armor.

We then see Tony video chatting with Happy Hogan (Favreau), who it's revealed is no longer Tony's head of security. He said he felt humiliated whenever he told people he was Iron Man's bodyguard. He also chided Tony for being part of the Super Friends now. That's when things took a decidedly more grim turn.

We see Pepper Potts with iron Man inside Tony's seaside mansion when BOOM! Attack helicopter fire missiles into Tony's Malibu, completely destroying it and the cliffside. The mansion collapses into the Pacific Ocean. Pepper's fate is unclear, but we see Iron Man sink into the ocean with all the rubble.

There's then a sizzle reel showing images of Guy Pearce as Killian, Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen (Black confirmed that's the character), Don Cheadle back in action as Rhodey/War Machine, and William Sadler in a role that appeared to be that of The President. But the big reveal was the closing shots of Ben Kingsley as ... The Mandarin! Yes, folks, Marvel confirmed the character.

Kingsley's Mandarin has an American accent, a very affected one that sounded not unlike Agent Smith in The Matrix. He was decked out in his robe and his rings and had a weird beard and hairdo that, combined with his outfit, made him look like a mishmash of a samurai, an old rock star, a Klingon and a pharaoh. Like a true comic book villain, he even sat menacingly in his big chair.

Sounds like there'll be a lot going on. Maybe too much, though obviously a bit early to judge fairly. I'd have preferred it to focus a bit more on the original Extremis storyline, though mostly because it's my personal favourite story (and truth be told, the only one I read all the way through).

Yet you could really pass that stuff by quite quickly and get onto the stuff from the spoiler tags above, and get to the part where The Mandarin tried to release Extremis. It could work out quite well.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi
