We generally eat at similar times but not the same food. Apart from weekends when we eat dinner together.

a lot of her friends think its odd but it suits us to eat different things so we dont mind.

Sounds to me like the OP wants an out so as to not have to wait a whole entire hour before eating dinner. Perhaps a reconfiguration of your other meal times might leave you not feeling so hungry immediately after work?

I hate it. I went through a phase of wanting to eat alone when I was in my awkward teens (not saying you are) but now I'd rather call someone and eat out than chomp beans on toast in front of the telly on my lonesome.

Much prefer eating on my own. Easier to hide the shame =bigger portions. But I also seem to eat at a snails pace when in public and find myself rushing to catchup = not enjoying it.

Not something I've ever been bothered about. If someone is in the kitchen when I'm making food then I'll probably stick around in there and eat with them, but there is not usually any coordinated effort (house of male students ~20 years). I'm usually eating out of necessity rather than for enjoyment food wise or socially.

More likely to sit around the table drinking tea.

    'Sup, what's guanine?

My other half is a saint, she waits until after 10 p. m. on the 2 nights a week I work late.

Having a couple of cheap restaurants at the condo that deliver make it easier to order so the food and I arrive at the same time.

I love relaxing, eating, chatting and watching TV at the end of the day. Thai food tends to be more sociable to eat since you have 2-3 dishes and share.

I eat with my lass and her lad every night. Often I'm back late as I work away, but she waits. She prefers us all eating together and thinks its important. I'm not hugely into it myself, but I know I'd be upset if I made an effort with a meal and everyone cleared off to seperate parts of the house to eat it. Its the one time of the day when we are all there and ask each other about our days before we go off to computers / TVs/ PS3s etc.

Its not my fault people insist on ordering shite and then make you share it with them so they can eat some of your nice one.

sometimes its like people have never been to a curry house before

"oh this prawn korma is really mild and shit, its good that we are sharing, your lamb chilli masala is really tasty"

no shit sherlock, thats why i ordered it!

Ha, we tried to convince my parents to have their 50th wedding anniversary meal in a restaurant near me. Lovely food. They went in and looked at the menu and walked out in disgust, saying they didn't want to want anything "that was on a bed of". We went to a pub instead, they were very happy.

But i always like one dish the best and i want that one.

Going out for pizza tomorrow, going to eat a whole pepperoni pizza to myself. Mrs can keep whatever prawny linguinie pasta shit blah she will probably order to herself :)

think half the problem is if i go out for dinner with my friends, they know i dont do sharing so i can get what i like, but if i go out with her friends, am the "outsider" so i end up just eating whatever i am given, and then getting bought an ice cream on the way home because my dinner was shite

jesus christ i am a small child.

Why doesn't the OP just spend that hour's wait making the food?

I'd always eat with my wife/family. To not do so would be really rather odd IMO.

I would love to have an extra hour or two before eating, to either have the time to cook, or go for a run or cycle. It'd be heaven.

Now we have kids, we tend to eat at 6-6.30pm ish, so everything's a bit of a rush. We used to eat at 8pm or later having gone to the gym, or off for a run before starting cooking. I'd far rather eat later in the day than earlier, but that's just how things have to be now.

We eat together as a family every morning during the week and every evening except Saturday night, which is designated kid free dining. I think its important for children to eat with adults, encourages better behaviour and gets them exposed to more varied food. Meal times should be social, not just about shovelling food in your gob.

I hate my family, so I eat as soon as I leave work and go off to my bedroom to play games as soon as I get home, because gaming time is more important than seeing those needy buggers.

Its all 'me, me, me' with some people.
