There's some good creative talent behind this show. That said, this is SyFy (sic), so it'll probably me cancelled before the end of the first season. What's different though, is that an MMO will run simultaneuos with the show and will affect the course of the characters and story on the telly box.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ed7j3_xHxBw#!

Syfy’s post-apocalyptic pilot “Defiance,” set 35 years in the future, is about a “frontier boomtown” built on the rubble of St. Louis -- which, like the rest of Earth, was invaded by extraterrestrials and devastated by a “universal war.”

I really like the look of this. Of course, being SyFy, the pilot will probably be great, then it'll go to shit, then they'll drop it.

I like the Firefly alike soundtrack too.

Hooray. Firefly crossed with a dour human interest, family dynamic angle. All the things I love about modern science fiction!

I wonder how sassy the daughter is going to be? And how rebellious the son is? Im betting 'really rebellious'.

It doesn't look that much like Terra Nova, does it?

I quite like the look of the show. Maybe not all that original, but I've never been fussy about original as long as it's good :)

I also already love Redhead Weirdface.

Insofar as it looks like every other shitty sci-fi show broadcast in the last five or so years.

I just signed up for the beta of the game. I'm a big fan of co-op shooters, so an MMO that focuses on that a lot more than PvP suits me. Sure, it'll probably end up quite generic, but I've never been all too fussy about that. Some of the trailers even make it look like taking down the larger enemies in EDF :)

I suppose that was in the form of a direct upgrade to your account, rather than some sort of key your best pal Fawkes might be able to absolve you of ;)

Don't think I'm that keen, really. Sure, I'll test it when they let me, but I can't see it being so awesome it's worth staying up until 2am or whenever it is. That said, if I'd been invited I probably would've. I think the main beta starts up next week too, so you'd have to be proper mental!

It's not a key, I've had an account with Trion for ages (signed up for the Age of Nations beta) so it's a attached directly to that, if I'm still awake I'll give it a go.

To anyone looking for a beta key, just go to the Defiance twitter page(@DefianceGame) and use one of the codes posted there (can be used multiple times).

Just a reminded for those that did get a key but maybe didn't check their e-mails, this beta has started, as indicated on the official site. There's an NDA though, so we can't really discuss it if you do decide to play.

NDA or not, it's actually pretty good. I won't mention a few bugs in stuff I've found as that's unfair but there is a very solid core to the gameplay.

I won't say anything NDA breaking, but the game is definitely on my radar now. Very much worth paying attention to if you're into MMO's or just games like Borderlands.

I can't see them being to strict unless we say anything specific or overly negative. Which I wouldn't want to anyway given how it's a beta and early days. I'll just say, much like Snowblind, that it's still very much on my radar. Can't wait to see how it interacts with the show - I'm already starting to read up on it a bit.

Well the game may be in beta, but I think the SyFy show airs in 3 months. So what you see is most probably what you will get.

I notice that the game has gone on sale on GMG (the digital deluxe edition is a little over the top pricing wise) and probably other places soon enough in case anyone was interested in picking it up.

I will be but I can't say why...

I'm sure those that care will have received the e-mail, but they're running an event where they're hiding codes online that you enter here, on the official site to unlock free stuff.

Finding the codes is up to you. Wink wink ;)

Only just noticed they've announced that they are going for a Guild Wars style subscription model. Happy days.

Definitely a smart decision on their part and also probably means I'll pick it up on launch knowing I can just dip in when I want.

The more I follow this, the more hyped I get about it. The TV show has a fairly solid pedigree with a good few Battlestar veterans on board for writing, music & visual design, plus I still quite like the concept. I can see a lot of it becoming a glorified soap occasionally for budgetary reasons, but if they get the characters right, it could still work rather well.

I really enjoy the game too, and can't wait to get some ark hunting done (hopefully with some of you fine people). I do have some concerns about the way the show and the game fit - obviously you can generally have bigger, more alien landscapes & creatures in the game without the same financial concerns. They have explained it in their canon though, what with San Francisco happening to have a far higher concentration of crashed Arks, so I think they know what they're doing :)

    I also still love Irisa.

The setting sounds like wild west meets outer space... in fact it reeks of Firefly but with more aliens. On the other hand, the gameplay footage I've seen looks surprisingly interesting (if extraordinarily buggy - it is a beta though). And the sub model (none) is very attractive.

Interesting. I shall make use of a key!

Well I gave it a go. Interesting setting. Not bad mechanics. Sort of feels like some other players are running around in my single player game though. Might be fun on PS3 for the novelty of a console MMO but otherwise nothing special. But also not bad.

I would have given it a go had my net decided that 200kbp/s was the fastest DL speed it could manage, all weekend. bah.
