    Hi guys

I'm not sure if this is the right subforum to post this in, so if not please move, mods.

I'm just thought I'd bring your attention to the Team Yu/ Shenmue 500k #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense tweetathon. The aim of it is simple, since Sega has shown precisely zero serious interest in continuing the saga over the last decade, we want to help the Shenmue License fall into the hands of Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, and a man who (in more than one interview) has expressed a desire to obtain the rights to the IP, as well as suggest that he has "many interested investors". We're not waiting on Sega to let us down any longer. On the 3rd of every month we are unleashing a planned tweetathon onto twitter with the hope of getting #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense trending. June 3rd will be our fourth month, and so far each time the event has got bigger, so we hope to continue the trend. If we can get that hashtag trending every month hopefully it will cause Sega a loss of face that they simply can no longer ignore.

Let your these stir your emotions! And please EG Shenmue fans, join us to send a tweet to Sega on June 3rd.

    Hi there,

Listen, I want Shenmue 3 as much as the next guy. I love Shenmue. In fact, I'd even go as far to say that Shenmue is my favourite game ever, despite the fact that it's really not very good (honestly, Sega are making Yakuza now, and it's incredible).

However, I just don't think things like this are really going to help :(

In the meantime, you might want to watch this:

How is it not yet time to admit that Shenmue was shit and hasn't got a sequel because the 20 vocal people in the world that want it aren't going to buy 100000 copies each.

Shenmue is Japanese for "you can stick it up your arse". But only in certain social contexts, obviously.

And three of them don't like Shenmue.

It's going to be a long, slow, tedious struggle by the looks of it. Somewhat ironically.

To be honest, I'd just be happy with a reissue of the first two. Maybe on the Vita. Shenmue on the lag would be ace.

I'm not fussed about getting closure. I mostly just enjoyed playing the games. The Shenmue series had a wonderful appreciation of the mundane and the everyday. Wandering around just soaking up the atmosphere was great.

Agree about Yakuza. Whatever Sega say, they are the spiritual sequels to Shenmue, They're also much better designed and paced games. However, there's something quite unique and special about Shenmue. Sad to say considering they're nearly 15 years old now.

Agree with you there LJ. An HD reissue would go down a treat, if they could work in some sort of shonky forklift racing online multiplayer that'd be appreciated.

But a Happy Yakuza would do.

    Thanks for all the replies!

Yes it will certainly take time and work to inspire the many currently disheartened long term Shenmue fans who have given up holding out hope for Sega to do anything, but Shenmue seems to have a special place in the hearts of the people who experienced the first two games, and as word spreads I really think more and more long term fans will come out and take action into their owns hands.

And getting our hashtag trending isn't quite as far off as you might possibly think. It did actually trend once last month, though ironically it was when we weren't actually even trying , but I think that's a very promising sign.

It's like anything though, instead of worrying how difficult it will be to achieve,if we all just participate (in this case by simply sending a tweet to Sega on the 3rd ) we can make a difference. Thanks to social media, gamers have a louder voice than ever before, so if you'd like to see a Shenmue 3, let's unite and make the most of it!

    Twitter doesn't mean shit.

An online petition is what you need.

Right. There's only one thing left for it. I'm going on hunger strike until they begin development on Shenmue III.

Shenmue is 15 years old now? Wow, time flies.

Shouldn't we be on Dreamcast 3 as well by now? :(

Hi guys, just thought I'd give this thread a very cheeky bump due to the fact that the tweetathon starts tomorrow (or in half an hour to be specific). So please forgive me the bump, TeamYu would be genuinely humbled if any of you guys and gals could participate. Lets see if we can get Sega to #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense

Why on earth did you use an image of a Dual Shock?

If the PS2 hadn't beaten the DC so hard we may have had Shenmue 3 by now, or at least had the DC for a little longer.

Furthermore, it's the Xbox that has the closer relationship with the Shenmue series, although I'm also aware of Yakuza's links to it.

Sorry Syrette, it wasn't me who wrote that piece. I guess you may be reading into the image a little too much though ;). The words are the interesting part :)
