    @AcidSnake Thanks. Survival.

If you want to see a ridiculous Creative Mode cathedral, check out what this guy did, it's beyond my comprehension:

And just to confirm, 'giving my church a proper bell tower' isn't an euphemism

Pity there's no gold or iron stairs and slabs, would be great for a bell.

Just picked up the retail copy of this. Any tips on where to start. Also does anyone know if the disc version is all patched up?

@AceGrace I believe the retail version is meant to be patched up to atleast Title Update 10, maybe 11.

Are the Texture packs going to be premium dlc like the costume packs? And do we have any idea when the first lot are likely to come? I've seen a couple different texture packs on the PC version and can see myself buying one or two if they're good and reasonably priced.

Nothing more is known about the texture packs, just that "texture pack support" is part of TU12.

The retail disc version should be TU11, the current version. TU9 was originally planned for the disc but was utterly broken, the following two patches were quick and purely bug fixes.

A place to start would be doing the tutorial.

Latest twitter pic shows a few more features:

New stone blocks, mob heads available in Creative Mode, item drops are now in 3D (although they are still flat objects, just rendered in 3D and spin, instead of the current 2D sprites that always face you.)

Ah cats, I never could tame them on PC as they always ran off and then I'd chase after them deep into the jungle, get lost and die.

They also confirmed that items dropped close together will automatically stack, and the 3D models will get thicker as items are added to the stack.

This should significantly affect automated farms.

Question regarding the retail disc - can it be installed and ran from the hard drive?

I only ask as I had an XBLA triple pack (Limbo, 'Splosion Man and Trials HD) and despite being able to install the data, it still read from the disc and reverted the noise levels from the 360 to jumbo jet mode :|

You need to have the disc in the drive for any installed games on the 360 I'm afraid. It normally only reads the disc when you start up said games though, so the noise level is a lot less then when you play directly from a disc.

Oh, no I understand that, what happened is the Arcade triple pack didn't behave like a regular retail game in that even after it was installed, the console still read data exclusively from the optical disc (so instead of the disc spinning up for only a minute or two to verify the disc was in the drive, it would completely ignore the data installed to the hard disc and only play it from the optical drive).

That's a rather good update I just wish there was a way to include it in my first world I've played to many hours in that one to start afresh, tried with the last update and lost interest far to quickly and going back to my first world.

    Xbox, Steam - DuvaDan
    3DS 4639-9278-1687

    Set the trend.

It took me three play sessions over three days to "get" it. I've been playing since May last year now and still keep coming up with new things to do. That's kind of regardless of the updates too. My latest thing was an idea to build a mansion around a quite large (naturally occurring) lava lake, so that it appears the house was hit by a meteor.

I've found the key is to only ever play in survival mode. Creative mode is probably good for people who just like relaxing doodling, but there's nothing at stake. Survival mode has pretty much all the same building scope, except that you have to gather materials and you can fall to your death off your half-completed roof into monsters that shoot you, eat you and explode.

It's the best game yet made.

I couldn't comprehend what it was until I played it on 360. Had been in the news for years already by that stage.

Here's a cut paste of a post I made on the Minecraft site:

There is a hill over looking my village that has a size able lava lake on it. I've been meaning to build a hotel up there for ages and decided to build a "stately manor" on the site. Here is is under construction:

I've been writing some journal entries of an expedition to this world, and story threads gave me the idea to have the lava lake incorporated into the build, by making out the house had been hit by a magic meteor from another dimension.

I've an amount yet to do to the back of the building, but these pics might give an idea of where I'm going with this. I've made a rough furrow leading in to the lava lake, may add an obsidian "meteor" to it later. I like the way the half-slabs can be used to look like torn and broken wood (and cobble) floors. I'm also finding good ways to get "shattered glass" effects with the way glass panes don't form completely without blocks to attach to.

The ground floor is cobble with 2nd storey in dark wood, there will be 3-4 storeys by the end.

Lastly, this pic might get you thinking about how scary it is building to roof directly above this lava pit! (I build all this in survival mode, no flying.)

I hope to get more effective pics once more of the building is finished.
