What Billy said basically, though you should leave some space around the bed otherwise it won't be able to spawn you in...

Worrying about surviving the first night is a great part of the game IMO...After you get a foothold down the enemies become no more than a nuisance anyway, it's just the first few nights that are crucial...

For glass you're going to need a lot of sand and I wouldn't get the sand from that valley you're looking out over as it's quite pretty like that...
Always welcome in our world too if you want some ideas or even start Arica if you find a suitable spot...We've got more than enough materials for it lying around...

Can someone send me a friend request so I can operate on your world si vous plait?

My bitesize Obsidian Death Star or my flaming Netherrack Great Wall* are less impressive when you're alone in the world.

*take careful note of nearby trees when you're building.

Will see if I can't throw someone off the FL tonight...And I understand your warning about staying away from flammable stuff...

Just remember the only rule we have:
Don't tear down anything we've built...

I've still got some 5 or 6 blocks of obsidian left, otherwise if you go down the mines under the gardens there a small ramp made for obsidian farming...Should even be a diamond pickaxe in a nearby chest...

I started reading 2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson. The first part is set on Mercury, where, to keep out of the raging sun, the city moves around the planets surface on rails, always staying ahead of the sunrise. I don't need to explain where my thoughts led me, do I?
    Will carts hold things up?

@Daddy-Doom-Bar No unfortunately. Interesting idea though.

You can only join friends when they're online. Just go to their profile and select join session in progress.

I've started making my football stadium last night, although at the moment it is just a dirt rectangle...

    @LB:
If you see I'm online just boot up the game, wait a few seconds on the main menu and my name should pop up in the rightside list...From there you can join...

We were talking about it yesterday and at least for me I'd definitely like a pay for option to maintain a server with some worlds on it so people can join when I'm not there...
That along with larger worlds and maybe mods to add that effect from the pics magicpanda posted are things I'd be willing to pay for...

    Do it 4J!(please)

Also finally got back into the game a bit because I have a new secret project to work on...Got visits from Mikki, DDB and haveasafeday as well...Remember, we're always happy if someone wants to add to our world!

Unless someone adds a giant penis, then they are barred :D

How much cobblestone do we have left? I seem to be using it up very quickly on my projects, and I've lost a fair bit from dying too.

    Ah! Didn't realise.

Worked on a sweet viewing platform, a batcave (under the south east wing, naturally), and some iron doors for the south entrance last night. Didn't realise you need a switch to operate iron doors, and have no idea how that is going to work. Time to learn!

On the other hand having a flaming netherrack curtain means that pigs die and leave behind ready-cooked steaks!

I think we're still good...Don't know where you got it from so far but the shelter near the valley has a full double chest of it...Bound to be some left in the central storage and probably in the garden mines too...

That said I am going to be needing a boatload of it too for the new secret project...

I'd suggest making the valley project the main quarry for our projects, at least that way we'll help that project along as well...

Ah, of course the valley will have loads. We can always see how far it goes before we start mining again...

I won't need any for a while yet as mine going to build the stands of the stadium out of wood I think. will need a lot for my next project though

Too bad there's not an automated way of chopping down trees to fuel the furnaces...

Anyway, it's a long way over to the valley from our projects but I really think that should become our main quarry...Maybe like you said though, making a rectangular shaft going to bedrock a priority first and then remove the edges...

Switches are very simple: place very close to the thing you want affected, or use redstone on the surfaces between to create a circuit.

I'm still not entirely sure what the point of the valley is...

I think we need rob the hermit to point us in the right direction!

    Down? :)

The point is much like everything else, not much...I still think that if you see a valley going down to bedrock it'll be quite impressive...

Have a white water rapid ride going down the whole way that ends with you rocketing off a cliff and plummeting into a huge lava field.

You will want a button on the outside and a pressure plate on the inside to automate closing the door behind you. You will also want a sweet hidden piston bookcase for the batcave.

@acid- I think we should finish the bookcases for the library tonight. Shouldn't take too long and it will look very impressive once finished

Yeah, I did stop by Brett's sugar cane farm every now and then to cut it short and I think we have like 200 odd books in the chest there we can use...

I just didn't know how high to go with the bookcases...

Then a nice path to the guesthouse and that whole area should slowly become more accessible...

I'd recommend putting dirt down first to test how the bookcases will look. I'd guess about 4 high would be about right, maybe 5, and the shelves should all be in rows.

I will build the road, I like roads...

Bookcases fall apart into bookcases again don't they? We could immediately use those then...

First thing I'll do is connect your pitch to some grass (it's on the way to my secret project), then finish the cobblestone I'm dragging around and then I'll head back to put up the bookcases...

Where has Brett gone off to, anyway?

    Bookcases break into 3 books.

My gaming time has recently been taken up by PC stuff mainly. To be honest I've also got a little bored with Minecraft, probably because I binged on the PC version then did it again on the 360 version...

@AcidSnake I did play on normal to begin with and did enjoy surviving the first few nights, but like you said it became a nuisance, so I turned it off to concentrate on creating.
Really enjoyed roaming your world last night. Some awesome sights to see. I love the idea of having a world filled with all sorts to do, but I think the world i've got now I want to be themed. Kind of like it all fits together. The bit i'm doing at the moment will be the begging of a small city/town built into the hills. There will be a huge wall built in front of it (just in sight of the valley so it doesn't ruin the view) kind of like a dam, with two huge statues either side of the entrance. Behind the valley will be a flat area for more extravagant buildings, libraries etc.

Built myself a water tower this morning. Got four buckets of water and a bunch of dirt. Jumped up a single column of dirt, put a platform on it then walled that up. Poured water into corners, chopped platform away, then floated down the waterfall digging out the dirt column.

Went back up with some glass and torches and made it all pretty, getting rid of the dirt platform. Looks pretty awesome and has given me thoughts of making a curtain wall of water.

Finally got around to the bother of making a fake facebook account so I can extract my screenshots without having to clog up people's newsfeeds with ads for how awesome Minecraft is (or how sad my life is.)

Might have to do some testing to figure out how to display them over next couple posts.

    Topiary maze.

On second thoughts a direct link might work better.
