    Well there we go, we have a first glimpsage at some action:

    I do hope this doesn't trade on the association with the Souls titles and actually turns out to be amazing.

    Seems very fast paced and action-y, which makes me think it's not to do with the Demon's Souls series.

    Part 1:
    The "Sacrifice" part of the title refers to your magic. When you cast a magic, you'll need to make payment through objects. You can use things like stones and trees as payment. But for more powerful magic, you'll be able to sacrifice your body parts. For instance, you can sacrifice your finger(s) to call out a Gleipnir. Sacrifice your eye(s) and you'll call out a Gorgon.
    Part 2:
    The big catch for Keiji Inafune's PlayStation Vita action title Soul Sacrifice is not the "soul," as many had initially expected, but the "sacrifice." As detailed earlier in the day, Soul Sacrifice has you sacrifice body parts to perform powerful magic.

    Weekly Famitsu lists the following sacrificial magics. While we listed these as summons earlier, they appear to be just magic attacks.

    Excalibur: You stick your hand down your throat, pull out your spinal cord, and use this as your sword.
    Gleipnir: Chop off your five fingers and perform a punch with your extended bones.
    Gorgon: Pull out your eyeballs, and use them to blast out magic beams
    Gungnir: Your bones and nerves emerge from your body and attack

    Why would you torture yourself to kill your foes? This is actually part of the background story. You play as a slave who serves a cruel sorcerer.

    It appears that you may be fighting people like yourself. Screenshots show massive creatures who apparently used their powerful magic too much and lost their human form.

    Sounds bonkers, but very interesting.

    I guess it really doesn't have anything to do with Demon's/Dark Souls...

    Well, if you pull out your spine to cast some spell, I guess you'd need to be able to put it back to continue the game. Unless there'll be some sort of body hopping mechanic.

    Yeah, I was thinking that if you took your eyes out early on then a first person perspective would be a cheaper option for the designers. :D

    The book part sounds kind of interesting, although perhaps not that original.

    The article on the front page states that Abusing this magic will deform your character, turning them into a more demonic-looking creature.

    The sacrifice mechanic is just power ups/special attacks by the looks of it.

    I'm a tad disappointed tbh. Maybe it'll turn out alright.

    I was actually hoping for a souls game TBH but still sounds interesting i hope its not just another hack and slasher and a more memorable experience like a souls game.

    Thanks! The self-mutilation doesn't seem all that obvious when you're playing which is a plus for me. Not sure that it looked all that exciting either, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for now.

    I just find hack and slash stuff to be incredibly dull.

    Was hoping this would be an RPG or some such.

    Something must have been lost in translation somewhere. At which stage would sacrificing one of your eyeballs to summon a monster seem like a good idea? So after you have used both your peepers to summon a monster by this method does your character then scrabble about blindly on the floor in the dark whilst said monster attacks your enemies?

    Player:"Has the gorgon killed my enemies? WTF is going on? If only I had not sacrificed my eyeballs I would be able to see. I know I'll sacrifice my left leg so I can summon a sight restoring demon!"

    I have never really understood this loyal monster concept either to be honest. OK so you can summon a monster. Why would it then do your bidding? What is to stop the monster telling you to F##k off and just deciding to do its own thing? How great would it be after summoning a monster that it then proceeds to run amok through the levels helping itself to all the health potions and eating all the NPC characters that it comes across? That would be fantastic although clearly not for the main character obviously.

    Player:"I am sorry there old man but I won't be able to re-unite you with your daughter. That big b###ard monster I summoned has just eaten her."

    Then much later.............................

    The player wanders blindly (having used his two eyeball summon spells) through the village and finds everyone dead and the monster lying asleep having ate his fill and having got drunk on all the ale from the tavern.
    Player:"Is that you Demon?!.................Wake up you foul beast! You were supposed to help me defeat that evil troll."
    Demon:"zzzzzzzzzzz.....hic.....F##k off you blind c##t or I'll eat you as well......hic..zzzzzzzzz.....just help yourself to some beer and shut your face........zzzzzzzzzz."
    Player:"I'd love to but I sacrificed my stomach earlier on whilst trying to destroy that harpie."
