Personally i love FIFA 13. Seems to have evolved in the correct way and is incredibly fun. Just trying not to play the demo much so it doesn't piss me off when i play 12 until next Friday!

As I said before it can be interesting occasionally to compare the strengths and weaknesses of both games, whichever one you prefer. I liked FIFA on a certain level, and I want it to improve on the things I prefer in PES, and likewise, for PES to incorporate what I find to be the successful elements of FIFA. Theres a way to have a balanced discussion regarding the two without resorting to arguments.

Predictably though, a certain mean-spirited individual who has given me horrendous abuse in the past on different threads, has once again, bizarrely brought my religious beliefs into the question, as he's done before, in his usual derogatory, hate-filled, offensive manner. What a surprise

Tactical Defending seems much the same. Can we try it with the ability to control the distance between defender and attacker next time, chaps?
Er, you can. I always do. Use the LT button to do a manual "contain". the "contain" option is a load of shite.

I've been using LT for this before tactical defending even came out.

Reviews up. Looks good. Although everybody pretty much knows whether or not they will like the game anyway.

I'd take both the pes and fifa reviews with a pinch of salt as they're both based on a maximum of 1 weeks play (probably even less than that).

It takes me at least a month of solid play before i start to see the annoying bugs and faults in a game.

For example - after a week with pes 2012 i'd have probably given it an 8 or 8.5/10 but after a couple of months that would have dropped to a 7/10.  it was only then that i started to become really frustrated with the refs giving constant fouls and the rubbish floaty shooting.

As good as pes 2013 and fifa 13 sound in the reviews, I'm far more interested in looking on here in November to see what people's complaints are after a couple of months with the game.

Then I'll decide which one to buy.

They're like fighting games really. Forums and hardcore players are going to give you a better perspective, but as you say it takes months.

In fighting games it sometimes takes years to realise a game is broken.

It's great that we have 2 awesome football games again!

RE: Reviews. It's much easier for PES to get a nine than FIFA. Due to PES being below par, a better version of PES was always going to get a higher score.

Not really. Last years PES got an 8 so if its a better game, it has to get a 9 no?

Where-as FIFA set its own standard and if it isn't as good as last year it won't get a 9.

So if next year's PES improves it has to get a 10? And the year after it gets better again, 11/10?.. Retarded...

Based on the EG scoring system, if next years has the same reviewer, then yes, if its dramatically better then it should get a 10.

Would make a mockery of scores if it didn't then surely?

No, just because its a better game doesn't mean it has to score higher than a 9.

It's all relative. If its a huge leap and the most amzing thing EVAR then maybe it deserves a 10 but otherwise a 9 is fine.

So people are wrong to compare how good the new Indiana Jones film was based on how good the old ones were?

No, that has absolutely zero relevance to the conversation here. I'm not entirely sure what point you think you're making.

If you reviewed Wolfenstein 3D as a modern game you wouldn't give it 10/10 would you? But it was probably worth 10/10 20 years ago.

Games should be reviewed in comparison to other games released at a similar time.

So Pro Evo 13 should be reviewed versus FIFA 13 and not Pro Evo 12.

Surely it should be reviewed on it's own - that there may be a game in the same genre, that may or may not be better, is irrelevant. If a game is flawed for whatever reason, that will come out and be marked down accordingly regardless of others.

Errr what? It's completely different! Of course you can compare last years game with this year, as long as its in the same console generation.

You can compare and say "this is what they've improved since last year" sure.

But how can you say "this game is a 10/10 because last year it was a 9/10 and its a bit better. But actually theres another football game which is only 9/10 and its a better game than that".

    And whats next year, 11/10?

Think the word on peoples lips is 'subjective' ftr.

So you seriously think games like Halo 2 and 3 are not scored based on where the game is quality wise compared to the rest of the series?

Fucking pc's, really getting sick of them now, tried more and more fixes and nothing, it should run perfect on my system(ati hd6850)
I just tried the demo on my laptop and it runs smooth on high when my laptop is probably a third of the power (ati hd663o)
It even ran okish on the laptops integrated hd3000 on medium albeit locked at 30fps.
I suspect its somthing to do with my graphics card being too powerfull for the game so its downclocking ingame causing stutters, it runs butter smooth for say 10 seconds then stutters for a few seconds and so on annoying as hell.
But then it doesnt stutter with pes.
Fuck i should of just stuck to consoles , they just fucking work, no pissing about.
I only really built this fucker for this and pes.

Really fucking pissed as i really like this fifa it feels faster and more realistic than pes

Wow, some tuff shit going on... but still, chill out man! :)
FIFA is quite a demanding game especially on the CPU (if you haven't already figured this out, this has a lot to do with the Impact Engine)
I wouldn't play it on a 2.4Ghz Dual Core or less...
So what CPU do you have? I might even give you tips (or link you a website) to figure out how to force the 3D mode in your GPU (to allow the full frequency even in 2D mode).
Also make sure you have the latest drivers, it's so important (it made all the difference in my low-end NVIDIA graphics card :) )
I have a lower end GPU and i'm easily able to lock 60FPS with few tweaks (some stutters, but it's mostly due to my weak CPU)
So yeah... show us your config, there most be some sort of bottleneck that's holding the game to reach its full potential...
