    Unimaginative title and release date confirmed by IGN ahead of the official reveal.

    I guess the developer isn't confirmed yet but I guess it's Treyarch. Which probably means more time paradoxes ("prototype" guns from the '90s appearing in the '70s) and an even more ridiculous plot.

    Only liked Call of Duty 2 and Black Ops so, I am quite pleased with this little piece of news, however highly expected it already was!

    The more 'ridiculous' this is, the better.

    I hope to hell theat they actually include a cover mechanic in a COD game finally... Getting really annoyed that only the AI/UI/whatever is allowed to have a cover system whereby enabling it to effectively hide behind a pillar. Us humans are relegated to lying prone on the floor in order to avoid incoming fire...
    AS long as it builds on Black Op's success rather than borrows from it, I think this will be one to watch. Despite all the hate that the majority of the community pile on the COD series, the fact remains that they're usually very solid additions to games collections :D

    @Derblington - So would I. But I would also be massively impressed that they've decided to make the character you play seem more human, rather than a brick which cannot hide behind a car properly.

    Outside of tactical shooters I don't think cover mechanics work, they aren't worth the effort in an fps. Especially when it won't carry over into mp.

    They could work on anims to make everything feel better, but that could involve a reworking of all interactive objects (windows, low boxes, etc) that could prove too expensive for so little reward.

    I agree that cover would be hard to implement, I just wanted something as simple as "pressing a" to duck behind a wall properly :(
    Nevertheless I will stick to rushing around with a silenced UMP (or it's equivelent).

    Re: the 'too expensive' thing...this is for an IP that has an inexplicably higher RRP than other games and is the highest grossing franchise on the market. I think their audience are due some 'expensive' developments to the engine / gameplay.

    That said, I actually think there would be a backlash if they changed the established template in any significant way. I reckon most of this games market don't want to have to learn anything new with each installment.

    I haven't played every FPS out there, but the kind of cover mechanic that would work for COD doesn't exist as far as I'm aware. It would have to be buttonless and seamless and allow you to move without being hindered. Otherwise, you'd be fumbling around "snapping" to walls and objects and dudes would just shoot you in the back.

    It's not just an expense of cash, I know they have that. Time, technical resources, etc, are big factors in what they can do when they HAVE to hit their holiday period release.

    There is a lot they can do but it comes down to worth - a cover mechanic simply isn't worth it. I do agree that they could/should update their engine and various bits in gameplay, but that will come in their iterative development cycles (the biggest change will be for the new consoles). There are certain things they must retain (60fps!) in order to keep the CoD feel that limits a lot of the technical grunt a lot of people would like, so it's all a trade off. I genuinely think they make the right choice In that regard: the game plays better than the competition because of the speed and fluidity, to sacrifice that edge would cost them.

    The walking tank thing is interesting, I wonder if it'll be more than just a kill streak reward.

    Crysis 2 has that, in SP at least, but it's worthless in MP. It simply wouldn't be used enough and if it was it would be a massive source of frustration to die by someone in 98% cover, like the current head glitching.

    So as respawn is meant to be doing a futuristic FPS this looks like activisions attempt to beat that plus Dices rumoured sequel to BF2142

    Add in that horse racing section Red dead Remdeption better look out as well :). Will look forward to new info

    Didn't they say about black ops that the time it was set in there was loads of stories to tell, so next one they go into the future :)


    With the amount of vehicles shown off, wonder if treyach will ever make their MP like they did with COD 3, which was more like a BAttlefield game than the standard COD MP we know today.

    Anyone who's on the fence, should probably read this. Even i was pretty surprised at some of the things they are adding into this new COD. Treyarch should really be commended for trying to change up the Call Of Duty formulae, if this is to be believed.

    That whole strike force section, like the article I linked below says, enemy ai will have to be better than standard COD AI if those side missions are going to be larger in scale
