Ah, that makes sense. I realise that the darker the room the better when using a projector, but if it really did look that washed out, even in daylight, I'd be more than a little concerned.

I thought I would need blackout linings but just closing the main curtains seems to be enough. I'll see if I can get a better piccie at some point - if I can figure out how to do a timed exposure.

    You've got a 2 Grand projector... o_o and a 600 quid auto screen ;_;

    Same here. :)

The subwoofer is just nuts. It feels as if someone is punching you gently.

Bah! You're really just showing off by proving your balls work aren't you?!

    ;)

What res are you running the PC at when connected to the plasma?

The max resolution on the plasma is 1024 x 768 and the quality is absolutly amazing, 1000 times better than a normal 15 pin cable. I play most of my games on my other PC (with a mere 17" monitor) but my favorites on the plasma are, NFS, Halo, PES & BF1942.

DVI is a must for this Plasma (me and the Lid chose ours together after months of research) similar to Progressive Scan being a must for the DVD to look fantastic. Also the plasma's native res is 1024 x 1024, tried HL2 in widescreen... was fun!!

The plan behind this setup is that the plasma is not a plasma TV but a plasma 'Monitor' which means it ships without a tuner card and without speakers, and without the 2000 companies like to add on for those two features. Having made a saving on the screen we obviously needed all the other bits...
Cable TV (to act as the tuner) 0 (10/month)
Speakers: 5.1 movistar from wharfdale 600
Amp: Kenwood KRF-X9070D-S Amplifier (5.1, DTS, THX) 600

So personally I paid 1200 instead of 2000 for the TV functionality and ended up with a much better package.

Still expensive but it has been one of the best investments I have made. The research was painful but after a while it became clear that if everyone chose as carefully as we did Hitachi would have the market wrapped up. Their ratio of quality to price defies belief. I am talking about paying 3000 LESS than the equivlent Sony and 1500 less than the equivlent Panasonic. LG can't match the quality, only the price.

I got it done by this company. In fact my comment on their service is the second one down. Excellent stuff. They sent out a remote, I followed the instructions, then sent their remote back in the envelope they provided. Next day service too. Excellent stuff.

Or you could just use the IR port on a laptop and some software to do it. As I did with my old Sony NS400.

    Looks lovely.

I assume the 1024x1024 resolution means that pixels on the set are not square? Not sure I'd be too chuffed with that, plus the maximum horizontal resolution puts it well below 720p Hi-Definition spec (1280x720), let alone 1080i (1920x1080(i)).

Projectors still r00l - it is official!*

    naff setup over here:

    panasonic 24" widescreen,

    philips LX8000SA
    NTSC Gamecube - monster s-video
    PS2 - monster s-video
    NTL Digibox

the above 4 are all wired into the tv via the fantastic joytech av control centre.

Pretty naff I know, but not bad for a bedroom.

Man, I've been waiting an age to post in this thread, but I think I'm ready now so here goes:

    From top to bottom:

    42" Hitachi 42PD5200 Plasma Screen
    Sky+
    Sony HTK-250 Surround Sound Receiver/Decoder
Samsung DVD-HD945 DVD Player (Prog scan & HDMI)
    Xbox
    Panasonic EH-55 DVD-R/HDD

    Offscreen:

Shuttle 3Ghz 1Mb X800XT connected via VGA@1280x768 with wireless keyboard and mouse, SB Audigy NX, and 54g wlan

    Logitech Harmony 6800 remote control

The screen is gorgeous, and HL2 looks unbelievably good at 1280x768 with 6xAA. The only SCART lead I use is from the Xbox to the screen, and all the audio is optical.

    Small update.

    Added some new bits

    Target AV rack
    Joytech AV Switchbox
J&S Tech RGB to SVideo convertor

It took me over 2 hours to switch from the Ikea bench to the Target AV rack - most of it was cabling. Nice mess down the back.

    I just have a 28" 4x3 Grundig :/

Virtual surround which sometimes works really well, most of the time not. VCR, Xbox, titchy Sky box & PS2 stacked in ascending order beneath it, Dreamcast sitting to the left of said stack atop a shortish CD tower with various homebrew & emulators in CD cases.

On the other side, a plasma globe. With no PSU, dammit :/

    I keep planning on trying to pick up a cheapo hifi so I can have far wider stereo, but let's face it I want a 5.1 system ;_;

Dammit... why can't LCD / plasma TVs be cheaper? ;_; The ideal arrangement would be to mount one of those beauties above my fireplace. The livingroom is perfectly shaped for surround sound / comfy heating then.

/Shakes fist at manufacturers for not giving 50" flatscreens away with breakfast cereals

Nice looking setup. I would love to get my plasma on the wall and tidy up the base but Spanish walls are made from butter; I'm not risking it.

I've gone the other way from you guys...

1 TV (Due and upgrade THB with build in Dolby Surround 5.1 and DVB)
    1 Media Center

Needless to say the TV and Lian-Li Aluminium case make for a dull picture....

That's my TV, Video player, PC, Video Recorder, Picture Library, Music Stereo, and data hub.

I also have a PS2, DS and ipod, and couple of laptops as well for working on. All wireless.
