    @Mattuk123

    Sounds good so! I'm not actually a football fan (i prefer playing with the makey-uppy clubs) so the lack of licences was actually a selling point to me in the past.

    Sensi and Goal! were the earliest ones I played, although I was about 14, never had access to games before that.

    @FuzzyDuck

    You will probaly like the ml mode then quite a few rpg elements that aren't realistic in football terms.

    I had a mate who only got into to football from playing pes5, you know the game must be something special then!

    Right then, how do I defend in this new version of PES?

    It seems incredibly awkward and ineffective so far, but I'm obviously doing it wrong.

    just approach the attacker with your defender and the AI will decide whether to tackle or not

    That sounds odd...and slightly stupid.

    Why can't I decide when to tackle them?

    Because its down to the stats of the player you are controlling, not the skill of the person holdign the controller!

    Key to defending in the recent PES games has been backing off (so you're not trying to tackle from the side or behind), then trying to time the tackle perfectly (obviously easier with defenders). If you try to tackle too early the opponent will sprint past, too late and it'll be a foul.

    Most of the forwards and wingers can't tackle to save their lives, all you can do with them is hassle the attackers by running alongside them and trying to use their speed to intercept.

    Getting a DMF with the Enforcer skill is incredibly useful, there's one available for a cheap transfer price at the start of the ML (rating 64) if you're starting with the default team.

    Hold circle/B to jockey/contain, then R1/RB to stick a foot in when you think you can nick it.

    Ignore Th, he's being facetious!

    It's the defending that's beginning to annoy me now and the constant through balls. You can't even put your foot in for a tackle anymore, even decent rated CB's on Pro or Top player level just stand aside and let them striker run past.

    @Mattuk123

    Huzzah, that sounds absolutely smashing, i might be checking my bank balance for a spare 40 quid later.

    Ha, i had an experience at a table quiz once that had a 'famous faces' round, one of which was Peter Chech. When they were reading out the answers later, i ended up saying out loud to the bemusement of quite a few people 'he doesn't look like that on my Master League team!'.

    Oh dear :redface:

    Yes it's double tap the tackle button to tackle, bit weird at first but effective when you get used to it.

    It's not really a double tap though, as you're already holding the button to contain anyway.

    Jockey button used to be fine in both games, kudos for trying to be different but its not needed really, think it was because people on the EA forums etc were complaining about sprint pressure abuse, especially online.

    It is just an over complication for me though even though I am decent enough defending, it's just too automated.

    i like the manual contain / jokey in FIFA where you can back away from a dude by holding LT, and then when you feel like it, press the A button to do a standing tackle.

    I am guessing that this PES system is the same, apart from you have to press the same button.

    I don't like the "contain" feature in FIFA where it maintains a specific distance for you automatically as its a bit random and shit, i always map that feature to an unused button

    I'm really looking forward to buying this!
    in summer i did decide, that I will skip this years PES game, since I haven't fully played out the 2012 yet, but now seeing the review I will jump on the 2013 boat for sure!

    On PES the A button is contain and stands off a certain distance, RT is jockey, RB and A will pressurise and try and tackle, sometimes recklessly but that's no different to what happened on the older games, the tutorials are actually decent at getting the point across in that regard.

    I found the system on FIFA 12 ok but contain was a bit easy when you switched players and contained each player forcing them to pass back or sideways, the improved movement on FIFA 13 makes that harder which is a good thing.

    @DarthKebab I pretty much agree with you... ;-)

    I actually bought the game, but i'm only going to get it tomorrow, i just wanted to ask a question for all of those who have the game on any platform:
    Was there any updates? Not talking about the free DLC stuff, i mean the real deal (fixing issues, few tweaks, gameplay adjustements and somethig along those lines), and if yes, tell me if it did anything serious or at least "noticable" in terms of gameplay, please guys, answer that question for me. :D

    Just curious, and so excited of course... !!!

    La cerise sur le gāteau!

    The scripted animations and my fave whinge of player switching is bugging the fuck out of me. The latter especially. Just because a player has been tackled, it doesn't mean they're not the player best placed to win it back! Gah!

    Not a gameplay issue, but does anyone know if you can turn off auto-save?

    Everytime the calendar stops I have to wait about a minute while it saves ML data, then system data. It wouldn't bother so me so much if it was only after every game, but every time the calndar stops?? It took me about an hour to get through two weeks of the transfer window, and I hadn't even played any games!

    I've had a look in general settings but cant see it there.
