Anyone seen the opening episode of Girls yet?

It's basically a muddier Sex in the City without the bling and sex replaced with bonking, following a group of twenty year olds trying to make their way in New York. It's got Judd Apatow on board too, so there's a Bridesmaids feel to it all too.

First episode was genuinely funny in places and it looks like it's got legs. I recommend checking it out.

Check out the movie Tiny Furniture if you like this, some of the same folks involved.

Honestly, it's really good. It sounds like shite, granted, but it's good. Mark my words, it'll be enormous.

Think less hardcore Kids/Ken Park by Larry Clark for another perspective.

Listened to it while laying Grimlock. Sounded fine. Didn't make me want to tel the GF to change the fucking channel. No screeching, which is a big plus point.

Didn't read past "It's basically a muddier Sex in the City". That's enough for me to know to actively avoid being in the same room as this show should anyone ever be stupid enough to put it on around me.

    So in conclusion, oh Tomo.

FWIW I detest Sex in the City but so far I'm really enjoying this. I also didn't get on with Bridesmaids since that was mentioned in the first post too.

Spend most of my time watching the most recent episode shouting, "but he's just a shit Will Arnett" at the tv.

Every girl I ever kissed I was thinking of a pro footballer.

Girls is genuinely one of the best things on telly at the moment. And it's absolutely fuck-all like Sex and the City.

It's just a comedy series taking the piss out of hipsters, with lots of shagging in it.

Surely nobody's still watching this? It's utterly terrible!

I usually quite enjoy it. In many ways it is Louis for twenty somethings. This week's episode was terrible though.

I didn't see it this week, but generally it is a breath of fresh air. Very original and the characters are really strong.

I'd strongly encourage giving it a go. It isn't the Sex and the City girly shit you think it might be.

I thought the episode a week or so ago was kinda...daring. It almost glorified cocaine use. My wife's gone off it a bit at the moment, mostly because this season seems to be entirely devoted to deconstructing everything that happened in the first one.

The whole point of it is fact to be the "anti" Sex and the City. It is the exact opposite in every sense, including being very funny.

It didn't quite glorify it but it certainly didn't go down the predictable and typical route of it all being fun until one of them dies of an overdose - I particularly liked the way it toyed with your expectation that this would happen as well.

    It's generally very daring indeed.

Yeah. The only thing I haven't liked this season has been Donald Glover. He felt a bit shoehorned, as the biggest complaint about last season was that it was "too white" and "too liberal". So this season they introduce...a black Republican. Though they did subvert it somewhat, but it still felt a little bit like a "this is a tickbox based off viewer feedback".

    Still great, though.

Yeah, plus Donald Glover is being totally used in the wrong way. He isn't that type of comedic actor.

Also I really liked the boyfriend in the first series, and they've kind of turned him into a dick for the second one.
