Yet another game i'll be getting because of the online mode. Would be good to get some healthy competition going on the forums. Don't tell me you're not tempted. Just have a look at these screenshots.

    Link

I've also found this video which shows off the Special Mode in the game.

I kind of wish Mii integration would feck off. Other than that it looks pretty sweet.

Didn't hear about this until now. Comes out in the US on May 20th!? That snuck up quickly :D

Count me in. Can't wait for this! I still play the Gamecube version sometimes. It looks very similar to the GC version and that only had fairly good reviews (7/10 ish). The unavoidable animations for the power shots broke up the flow of the game a bit. Still, I love tennis games and love Mario, so unless it's somehow an absolute stinker it's a day one purchase for me. I'm pretty much only playing first party Nintendo games these days - just don't have enough free time to touch anything else :|

25th of May for the UK release according to Pocket Gamer

Bit worried that it doesn't mention 1 v 1 online matches. Only doubles. Hmm...

I hope it avoids the Mario Tennis problem of slow to launch. As in thousands of setup scenes and loads of text and easy matches before it gets going.

Day one for me too, I am having to pick and choose my games a bit more carefully now (time & money) and Nintendo games are usually the best quality

The Mario Tennis games have always been underwhelming for me simply because they just don't compare to Super Tennis on the SNES.

Got to admit I don't know Super Tennis, but MT on the N64 beat Anna Kournakova to a quivering pulp and was engaged in a very even arm wrestle with the original Virtua Tennis last time I checked, which is one of my favourite tennis games ever.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

N64 Mario Tennis is flawless, and Power Tennis is pretty much the same if you turn power shots off.

There's a nice little preview of the game on Nintendo Life. It's a very positive preview too.

Fuck. Now this is a game that makes me wish I still had my 3DS. They better not release Mario golf as well!

That'll sell a DS to me if they can make a golf game as good as Advance Tour on the GBA. Brilliant game.

Bah. They wont compare. They'll never compare!

Edit - I didn't mind the VT tennis games, but the mechanics always led to similar games of tennis being played over and over again. Even against mates, which was annoying. I was a big fan of the two Smash Court Tennis games on the PS1 though. I liked how you could build your own tennis court in the first one too!

So part of the Nintendo direct announcement was that this will have over 200 items to customize your mii.
This video on the japanese site (which has lots of info) shows some two player super mario bros action, looks fun.

I've not played a Mario Tennis game before so I'm really looking forward to this. Looks like a lot of fun.

ONM review score 80%. More of the same but a bit less crazy and over the top, which is no bad thing imo.

Apparently Nintendo power gave it a 70 (according to metacritic)

I have to admit I was expecting higher scores from these two magazines as they are usually a little biased towards Nintendo games

Apparently Nintendo Power criticised it for lacking an RPG mode, which as we all know is a key component to any tennis game.

Not sure I can see myself paying full price for this, but maybe when it drops below 20...

    ...In 2 years time, then.
