It's a bit of an elephant in the room, though isn't it? It's like saying my grapes are juicier than your grapes because they cos three times as much.

Despite the bunch having been picked from the other end of the same vine.

I know, but I'm illustrating a point with well worn generalisation.

It's the superiority of people because they've bought into some hype that makes people antsy. If you want to curb that, curb the morons that make it an issue.

Only very slightly off topic but the strangest thing I've ever seen was with some guy on his iPhone.

Ringtone was on full volume but it was the way he answered it that got my attention. He was basically walking with his arm outstretched to full length with the iPhone held out so that people walking towards him could see who was calling. He did this for about 20 seconds or so.

    What a wanker!

FaceTime is the bain of my life at the moment. I got mum and dad an iPad for Christmas and all they ever fucking do is Facetime me. JUST FUCKING PHONE ME!

It's kinda cute though, my 60yr old mum getting all tech savvy on me. :)

Not to worry, every Apple owner will be tech savvy enough to cope with this.

if you have nothing intresting to say then you might as well just throw your bags on the truck and drive away

Why do some people seem to have a real dislike for others simply on the basis that they own a Mac rather than a PC? I have owned many PCs in the past but have owned an iMac now for about 2 years. The main reason for buying it was for the aesthetics and the fact that it takes up very little room. Yes it costs a lot more that the equivalent PC but it's what we wanted. The screen is great and the machine still works well for what we use it for ie web browsing, lots of word processing, watching movies online, photo editing and a bit of Football Manager.

    Wait... what.

I think I came out with some anti-Apple nonsense in one thread some time ago, and you're still mad? Apologies, good sir.

    @KayJay

I have the exact same problem with my parents. The fact I live 600 miles away from them makes it even harder to say "look, that's enough now, I wish I'd never showed you how to use it!"

You hear it ringing and think FFS, not again. But then you see your mums face filled with joy that she's managed to tap 2 buttons on her iPad and made something happen.

I bloody love my mum. :)

My dad has an iPhone 4s and FaceTimes me a lot, but then I live 12,000 miles away and have a son he hasn't met.

Macs are great. My only gripe is when people run windows on them. Strikes me as utterly bizarre. A bit like having a girlfriend that you make dress as a dude and bang up the wrongun.

My mother does ask me to use video with skype, not going to allow any precedents.

My personal issue has always been those threads on Facebook when someone says they got a virus followed by a bunch of smug arseholes telling them they should have got a mac. Hopefully this will stop those.

I like to have Windows 7 on there if only to remind me why i paid extra for a mac. "its not as awful as Vista" was never much of a selling point to me.

    Pissy pants.

That has never been Windows 7's selling point.

It was when you told people you switched to macs after the awful, awful Vista.

I didn't think Vista was that bad, I didn't get on board until SP2 though. After having lived through Windows ME, just about anything seems decent though.

Windows 7 is better - IMO - than OSX. 'cos OSX is a bit crap. IMO. If I had a Mac bigger than the Mini I have here then I'd bootcamp it too - 'cos the Mac selling point for me is that a) the screens are nice / laptops are quite light and decent despite the keyboard and b) I can develop iPhone stuff on it.

If you bought a Mac purely for OSX then you're doing something wrong. Some of the apps, however, that's a different story - but thankfully almost everything I use at the moment is multi-platform. 'cept *fucking* xcode. Holy shit I hate how I had to remove it and the fucking *icons* just so the Appstore would correctly let me update :/

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

Judging OSX after using a Mac Mini is like judging Windows after using an Eeee PC.

I'm just about to stick an SSD in my Mac Book, which should take both Win 7 and OSX boot times into single figures of seconds. Best of both worlds, and in Windows' case "best" simply means "more games".

Oh and @warlockuk AppCode is your friend. Fuck XCode into orbit.

Great! Now I can pretend that theres a reason I bunged out OSX and installed Ubuntu rather than just curiosity!
