Registered 4 years agoWtf is going on. Penguins with American surfer dude accents speaking to some kid talking about being a hero pure of heart without any irony?! This is completely and utterly bonkers.
Resolution is good for the text but I haven't got a clue what I'm supposed to do. -

Registered 6 years agoDoooooooooodddddd!
Does the camera have rotational (90') options, zoom and overhead like the PS3 one?
Those options pretty much relieved the scenery obscuring complaints. (Except in the student world or whatever the new companion to the item world is called).
Tempted to buy this but would much rather have Disgaea 4 Vita. -

Have to say this is the weirdest game I've played but so far I'm intrigued.... -

Registered 8 years agoHaving never played a Disgaea game before, I am enjoying Absence of Detention on my PSV, although the plot is absolutely bonkers. I'm a little confused over the gameplay and all the terminology used (Residents, Items that can be transferred to Residents/Warehouses... like, what?) but I'm gradually picking up the actual gameplay and enjoying it. It's rock-hard in places too (I think I'm on chapter 2). I've reached the map where you have to attack five giant fingers (supposedly the hand of the main demon character's Overlord dad) but I got massacred with the fireball attacks it used after 5 turns. Very unfair. I actually saw my first Game Over screen.
I really like the game as its very different and perfectly suited to the PSV, particularly the colourful anime visuals and sprites, but I want to play it on a lower difficulty really. I'm pretty sure I'm not playing the game correctly though as I've seen attacks which involve two or more characters in gameplay videos and I've yet to find out how to do that (it that what the Ally thing is?).Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, Wii, PC (Intel Core i7-920 @ 3.8 GHz, 12 GB, 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 SLI, Windows 8 Pro), iPad 4

Registered 8 years ago@Darren a resident lives in an item giving it a boost of particular stat. At certain stages you can move these about to give greater stat boosts up to the maximum number of residents that item can hold. The resident type will give you a clue as to the stat it will boost.
Warehouse is where you stock all your equipment and items that you don't take into the levels/item world with you in your bag. -

I've never played a Disgaea game either but this stuff is all covered in the first 3 tutorials. there's also a detailed help in game that's explained most of my questions. (triangle menu, help).
I'm pretty sure I'm not playing the game correctly though as I've seen attacks which involve two or more characters in gameplay videos and I've yet to find out how to do that (it that what the Ally thing is?).
There should be a separate help system for the bloody bonkers story though! -

Registered 8 years agoBasically if a character is stood behind or alongside the attacking character there's a chance for a team attack. The cheeky move is to bring a character out to stand behind your attacker, let them take part in the team attack (where they'll earn xp) then undo their move sending back to the base panel - like they hadn't even come out! Useful for buffing some underpowered units who would get caned if they stuck around on the map.
Sorry, but I've been suffering for years from Verbal Disgaearhea. -

Registered 6 years agoThe chance of getting a combo attack is improved by positioning people next to each other in the classroom.
Having the same weapon also helped on earlier games but not sure about on 3.
If you get stuck on a story level then go into the item world!!! -

Registered 4 years agoSo I died in a fight that I was hugely underpowered for, saw credits come up and then the game restarted, I'm back at tutorial 1. Never saw a game over screen but I did skip the credits as they were going in for ages.
Wtf happened? -

You were probably not meant to win. Although on a NG++++ with superpowered characters you might...
Carry on playing and see what happens. -

Registered 4 years agoReally? So I was supposed to die the first time I fight rasberyl? Seems weird that im doing exactly the same tutorial levels, yet a couple of things are now unlocked like item world. -

Registered 5 years agoYou definitly are not required to lose a fight against Rasberyl iirc from ps3 gameplay (at least not in 20 first hours).
Load savagame and perhaps grind a few levels. -

Registered 6 years agoFrom memory it is the fight with the fingers that can be impossible but only on the second attempt? If you return to it after defeating it once all of them are level 2000 or something. Making it impossible to win again.
Generally unlikely to get a game over screen if a fight is intentionally impossible.
You must have got the Rasberyl ending by losing to her in a fight you should have won. -

Registered 2 years agoYeah, if you lose to characters like Midboss, Axel and Rasberyl you tend to get an early finish to the game, an extra daft ending and a restart. I always get so in to it I forget to get their endings.

My Disgaea 3 is downloading at the moment, yay! About 2.1GB so the localisation adds another half GB on if anyone's interested in that.PSN ID: finn1

Registered 2 years agoYeah, it's £7 more than the Amazon price was (£27.87) and £8 more than you can get it from Shopto currently (£27) but I have a ridiculous amount of PSN vouchers and not much in the way of actual money so it works out better for me.

Registered 8 years agoThanks for the explanations. I'll take a look at the game across lunch time and read some of the Help/Tutorials then grind a few practice levels. I've a feeling that Overlord hand map is going to hinder my progress until I learn exactly how I'm supposed to tackle it.Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, Wii, PC (Intel Core i7-920 @ 3.8 GHz, 12 GB, 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 SLI, Windows 8 Pro), iPad 4

I seem to have got my memory card down to about 10/11GB left. I'm quite impressed at my restraint.

Disgaea is the sort of game that I want to have forever and be able to dip in and out of so I don't mind having it in digital form. It is pretty much endless. Stuck on a desert island (with a power supply) type of game.PSN ID: finn1
