The new video for the relaunched Takedown project on Kickstarter is now live, and it looks like a lot of very high-quality work has been put into it. This is a project by gamers for gamers. Here it is:

Time is of the essence and the clock is ticking; there are now only six days left for you to make a difference and pledge.

Will you support the Takedown project?

Disclosure: Other than being a minor backer I have no other investment in the project. I'm not a developer - just a fan that would like to see the project be a success.

Five minutes is too long, didn't watch it.

Also, "by gamers for gamers" is a boring cliche that makes no sense. Aren't most game makers gamers themselves?

Also there is no link to your kickstarter page. I wasn't planning to donate but if I was I wouldn't be able to. Good job.

Brian Fargo, yes. Tim Schaefer, yes. Some bunch of people who have a rubbish video of themselves 'acting' and very little else? No.

Gamers for gamers is a big cliche but it's still fact in this case; apparently Christian Allen started in the business writing mods for Rainbow 6.

Good call on the links, too (fixed). At least it proves I'm not some marketing flunky.

Bottom line is this: Kickstarter is based on trust. Wasteland and Inxile meant absolutely nothing to me before I saw Kickstarter and started reading up on them - likewise Christian Allen.

I know this much; I've waited patiently for half a decade since Swat 3/4 to see a highly challenging and replayable tac-sim FPS that doesn't concentrate solely on killing everything in sight but actually rewards the *preservation* of life - both hostage/bystanders *and* the enemy.

I think this is it, and for $15 for a once-in-a-half-decade piece of software I think that's a bargain. Whether you think the same is up to you.

BTW. 15 dollars is just over 9 in "old money".

Fucking hell, 4 people have pledged $2500!

Surprised by the negativity thus far in thread. If my monetary situation allows I will donate.

From what I can make out Christian Allen looks like the *real deal*, with top industry talent lined up to make this thing. He has been *very* specific about the AAA resources he has on call - specifically this list (from his FAQ):

" A: While we can't name names due to contract negotiations, we have veterans from:
    Bungie
    Microsoft
    Monolith
    Surreal
    Red Storm
    Wargamer
    Ubisoft
    Snowblind

    Games they've worked on include:

Rainbow Six, Rainbow Six Rogue Spear,
Ghost Recon PC, Desert Siege, Island Thunder, GR2: Summit Strike
    World of Tanks
    F.E.A.R.
    Condemned
    Condemned 2
    Drakan
    Age of Empires Online
    Marathon
    Halo 1, 2, 3, Reach, 4
    The Suffering
    The Suffering 2
    Gotham City Imposters
Lord of the Rings: War in the North "

Any indication on what happens if they make the Kstarter target but the VC funding falls through?

    @superdelphinus

Oooh, aren't you the suspicious one. :)

Like I said, I backed it for $15. End of. That's it. Did I know who Christian was before this weekend? No. Do I live on the same continent as Christian and his mates? No.

Wrong question. You should be asking what have I got to do with Swat 3 and 4, which I played for months and months and... you get the picture.

Fact is that I *strongly* believe that this game *needs* to be made because at the moment we are swimming in a sea of single-player games-on-rails and if we don't see this game to completion then big-name publishers may ensure that a title with gameplay like Swat CQB will never see the light of day for another half-decade. I don't want to be dead before the next Swat-alike comes out!

No idea - you're better off asking Christian Allen himself.

Wow that gif is really annoying, thanks.
    Edit: cheers :)

Anyway while I wouldn't be against the game it's not something I 'must have' so I'm not going to super-pre-order it, if it makes it then I'll consider it when it comes out.
