    I couldn't find a thread for this game in the General section... but, anyway, I got the Xbox 360 version yesterday and played about an hour of Silent Hill 2. I didn't notice any framerate issues and the fog looked as thick as I remembered it from the PS2 version but I did have some god-awful sound glitches while roaming the streets of Silent Hill. Sometimes the sound would cut-out or there'd be this horrible screeching (which isn't coming from the enemies by the way, that's a different sound).

    I had actually planned on buying the PS3 version originally but switched my order when I read of the problems with the Sony version in the NeoGAF game thread. I think it's unforgivable that these issues exist in both versions on fixed format consoles. Clearly quality control wasn't a prerequisite for this game at Konami!!! :rolleyes:

    Is it a weapon related noise, or completely random? I have seen reports that some guns in SH3 cause horrible sound problems :(

    I only had the plank of wood at that point so it wasn't a weapon-related sound alas. The sound is just glitchy for some reason but otherwise the game looks pretty good considering its age (it's obviously widescreen now and the film grain has been retained). The opening section is dull though, which surprised me as I didn't recall it as such, and there are no prompts on-screen to tell you where to go or what buttons to press for the weapons, which led to some initial confusion as it has been years since I played the game on the PS2. This is very much from an era where reading the manual is a requirement not a choice!

    In this video you can see how James continually stops and starts, something reported by a lot of players. That would make the game more or less unplayable for me.

    Even without the technical issues, though, I'd be loath to spend money on a port that's been this sloppily put together (textures have been changed for the worse, lighting has been fucked around with, fog and other effects removed, music and other minor details altered for no apparent reason). I'll take the blurrier but otherwise as-intended PS2 versions instead.

    Hm, this is odd, because if it's got issues like that, how the hell can it get a 9/10?

    Unless it's only on certain 360's/ps3's? But that cant' be the case surely

    Actually the fog doesn't look that bad on that video, but that stop start shit? You can fuck that

    I've heard that the fog problem is mainly on the PS3 but both have serious issues with looped music and sound sync issues.

    @quadfather would not trust the IGN review.

    Some of the videos on youtube seem ok, some awful, some pretty good

    I *really* don't want to taint my ps2 sh2 memory though :-(

    I wouldn't bother then if you already own the originals. Not enough in this package to risk being dissapointed. The image is certainly cleaner, but it appears that many little things have been taken away from the experience.

    Yeah, looks more bad than good. I've still got sh2 special edition for the ps2, so I think I'm going to sit this one out and wait I reckon.

    Haven't got 3 though. but I bet I can pick up an old one for a few quid

    Quite odd that this is a turd, considering Konami's other recent HD collection turned out to be quite excellent.

    Yeah, but the MGS HD collection was handled by an extremely experienced and talented studio. Hijinx are a bunch of unknowns.

    Is trhis ther only thread for the HD collection? I couldn't find another one. Just checked my Lovefilm list and it seems there sending this out albeit the 360 version. I'm sure I read somewhere this had been held back/recalled at the last minute? Either way I should be playing it by weekend so I'll post my thoughts on it.

    You could say this port got screwed worse than the mannequin in Silent Hill 2.

    Silent Hill Downpour however seems to be getting decent user reviews on Metacritc. Watched the Gametrailers Review last night and I thought it looked pretty good. Bad enemy design but most games these days seem to bar dark souls

    Main thing though. Has anyone played this. I'm 60/40 on the matter of picking it up.

    JOY AND RAPTURE.

    Turns out that I pre-ordered this - both on PS3 & 360 (?!?!) in the middle of last year. Cancelled my order before despatch from TheHut, but... they've despatched them.

    So you got them free ? if so great stuff. I have them on my lovefilm list. I also have SHDP, I liked Homecoming more than most, so hopefully will get some enjoyment out of it. They will never beat the original 3 games, just like they (Capcom) will never better the first RE games, apart from REmake which was and is the definitve version of Resident Evil.

    Same, Homecoming wasn't a great game, but I think I enjoyed it more than most did by the sounds of it, just pretend it isn't a SH game ;)

    I just don't want to sully my SH2/SH3 memories :( They're among my all time favourite games (2 mainly)

    Listened to the soundtracks for 2 and 3 yesterday as well, awesome stuff. Shame that no games this generation have managed to have the same oppressive atmosphere as them.

    I remember I was playing 2 with a friend one time and I ejected the disc to change the game but the game continued to run as I didn't reset the system. Now when I came back after five minutes I was rooting around for the other game I heard James scream from the TV.

    Don' know if it was a idle animation thing or something but it freaked the hell out of us! :)

    EDIT Just found out that the Pyramid Head scene with the mannequin isn't edited out. Its a loading glitch on the PS3 version :eek:

    In two minds whether to keep one of them & flog the other off in the possibly vain hope they're going to fix the fuck ups.

    I'd be amazed if that's much different, would be easier just to port the same version across.
