Hi. I'm purchasing a PSP soon and I was wondering if you could recommend some of the better story-driven games on the system.

I'm probably referring mostly to RPG's and Strategy RPG's but anything else that falls under a different genre with an entertaining plotline would be good to know about.
I used own a PSP a while back and the best I played back then were Tales of Eternia, Crisis Core and (to a lesser extent) Popolocrois (spelling?).

Trails in the Sky. Stop F5ing and buy Trails in the Sky!

    Also recommended:
Jeanne d'Arc (import only I'm afraid)
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth (good luck finding a copy)
    Persona 2 and 3
    Star Ocean 1 and 2

Yeah. I saw a review for this. It looks really good. Is it like your classic turn based RPG's?

I've previously had all of those except VPL and thought they were superb! I preferred SO1 over 2 which apparently is an unusual decision amongst fans of the series.

I enjoyed SO1 so much that I completed it twice, back to back. If they ever remake SO3 you won't be seeing much of me for the next, um, 130+ hours.

Yep, but with no random battles, and a slightly SRPG-inspired battle system. Very heavily story-based, though, lots of text to wade through, but it's all incredibly charming and well written.

Theres the option of a female protaganist and new social links as well as a few other changes. Not massively different if you want something new.

    I really loved SO1 too. :)

That sounds superb. I for one, love wading through endless conversation. As long as the characters are well developed of course.

Brave Story (import only) is good. I also like Fate/Extra, which Ghostlight are going to release over here in the near future.

Corpse Party isn't an RPG but is very much story driven.

Yeah, I'd recommend Trails in the Sky as well, with one caveat: the characters talk and talk and talk and talkandtalkandtalk. I found it rather trying at times. Also, it's the first instalment of a trilogy (and the fate of the other two is up in the air at the moment), so don't expect any real closure.

Definitely get Jeanne D'arc - at present you can get the US release from ebay for as little as Ł13. It's one of my favourite PSP games and I enjoyed it more than Final Fantasy Tactics. EDIT: I see you've already played it. Very good.

Also, you may want to know that a visual novel was released in the US recently, Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom

Apparently it is billed as an otome, but all reviews say that both sexes can enjoy it, with loads of action, historic and supernatural stuff, as well as samurai dating!

    Also also, Corpse Party.

More votes for Jeanne d'Arc and Trails in the Sky. Two of my favourite RPGs ever!

Persona 3 Portable - in the last few hours of it now of yet another playthrough, second favourite RPG of all time (after FFIX)

Trails is next for me, sounds like my exact kind of game.

I have to admit, I do quite want to play that. I was hoping it might get released on the PSN over here but no sign of it yet.

    Yep, working on it. :)

Only finished the game a few days back (after 60 hours!), and been very busy recently. Needless to say it'll get a lot of praise.

Jeanne D'arc by a long way for me. Fantastic SRPG, but bizarrely no European release.

Ys: seven is an OK action RPG. Not sure if you think it is story-driven enough...

I finally took the plunge and bought P3P.

Looking forward to starting it tomorrow :)

I chose it over a Vita game since it's the same price as one :-P

I was just checking this thread for recommendations on games since I found my charger. When did PSP games get so hard to buy in actual shops? No one seems to stock them. Even Game/Gamestation have a meagre selection. :(

    PSN is your friend ;)

Vita happened so no-one wants to sell PSP games anymore :p
