    :)

Didn't intend to offend, but it's like saying the barbecue beef Hula Hoops are the greatest dining experience available when there's prime steak available!

Hey, Maiden won a Grammy for El Dorado. Which is a track featured on The Final Frontier. The album itself reached no.1 in 28 countries apparently. None of which is important to me, I just care if the music makes me wanna head bang.

Music snobs are in every genre of music, all of them desperately sad people best ignored.

Dug out this classic slice of techno stompiness this afternoon.

And just point out I like Hula Hoops and steak, which is to say I enjoy The Final Frontier (and El Dordado is the best song on it after The Alchemist), but there's a mountain of better metal (and other music) released in the last few years - why ignore that buzz and stick with the big bands?

I do dearly love Maiden and Metallica, but there's bands releasing stuff as good as Powerslave and Master of Puppets today that are overlooked in favour of rubbish like Hardwired. If that album didn't have the name Metallica on it most folk would ignore it.

I did actually really enjoy Hardwired for what it was but yeah it doesn't hold a candle to a lot of modern metal releases. We're going through a really good patch at the moment.

    With stuff like Sylosis

or Vektor and that's just in thrash metal.

Got to see Vektor play Terminal Redux start to finish (with Hunger for Violence as an encore) in a tiny venue last year, blew the roof off the place.

Talking about Metal, or rather whacked out psychedelic rock, I'm going to see King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard next month. Albert Hall in Manchester, my favourite venue!

Not a fan of thrash to be honest. I like a track that has a tune to it. Hardwired is my fave Metallica album by far, perhaps because it sounds a bit Maidenish? Dunno, like I said I don't get super into any one band, all I care about is if the music I'm listening to makes me want to tear shit up.

I used to like Rancid when I was at the end of my teens, early twenties. Haven't listened to them in years though, though I have fairly fond memories of their earlier albums.

This new song is just awful though. They just sound so tired. That na na na chorus is terrible. I think they know it too, they look so sad in the video.

Bonus points for Tim's awful beard and Lars's dad jumper. Guess he's still trying to portray himself as a skinhead. He just reminds me of Combo from This is England. I remember when he "was" a biker.

Never bother with bands with tryhard names such as "Rancid" or what was the other one mentioned, Mayhem was it (or is that just a name of a track?). The exception to that is of course Megadeth.

Surely there has to be a band called Demon Puke...

But you like music that makes you want to "tear shit up". K...

Hang on, Maiden aren't even aggressive. How does that make you want to tear shit up? Also Hardwired sounds NOTHING like Maiden.

Edit again - How is the name "Rancid" tryhard and "Iron Maiden" isn't? It's a torture device FFS.

Edit again - considering Mayhem burnt churches to the ground, one of their albums covers features the image of one of their members with their brains splattered from a gunshot and another got banged up for murder, never has a band name been more appropriate.

I got into Rancid via their 2000 self-titled jobby. Has a good amount of piss and vinegar to it. Was shocked to realise all their other stuff is basically The Clash-lite.

...And Out Come the Wolves is good, mind.

    ^ Rancid...

Me; Flock of Seagulls - I Ran

Also the Furi soundtrack, the game of which I haven't played, but may do after hearing this.

    @FuzzyDucky

Mayhem sound edgy AF. Something my teenage me might have found appealing. Burning churches to the ground? That's a bit naughty. 💪🏻

So music snobbery is okay if the snobbery is based on the band having an "edgy" name?

@drhickman1983 Haha yes, this is exactly what I was thinking.

So, suggesting that someone listens to newer, more interesting music instead of bands that are well past their creative peak = snobbery.

Dismissing a band without hearing a note of their music based on their name = not snobbery.

Yes, "Rancid". They're a (pop) punk band, what should they be called? Would it make more sense if the Dead Kennedys were called "Estuarine Ecology"?

Band names in keeping with the themes and tone of the music, makes sense, no? I say this as someone that listens to Bronski Beat, Chic and Napalm Death in equal measure. Label on tin tells me of contents.

@b0rk I'm not defending Mayhem's actions (they're abhorrent, frankly) and I'm not even that much into their music, but they were a bunch of teenagers from a little Norwegian town that created one of the defining moments of their genre whilst causing national terror on the side.

Now what I think is "edgy" is a grown man admitting that he likes music that makes him want to "tear shit up" and listens to multimillionaire James Hetfield singing "we're so fucked! Hardwired to self destruct!" for his kicks.

@FuzzyDucky oh, I know Rancid. I'm just pointing out how shit my current music choices are by comparison. :)

Sometimes nothing quite hits the spot like some pure cheese.

Listening to that Mark Lanegan album and the new Slowdive in equal amounts just now, both excellent. Slowdive especially, can't believe how good it is after a 22 year break since their last!
