Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's real.

"early death" is a misnomer anyway. I've seen Final Destination. We all have our time, and we can only cheat it if we vividly hallucinate a major tragedy.

    It sort of was.

It was an April Fools joke that took on a life of its own. Ended up with the blog that created it totally losing control of the story. News organisations and magazines reporting it as a real product etc.

I'm surprised so many people can still afford red meat. Bloody expensive these days.

There is nothing that will stop me eating meat. Except maybe having to kill it myself, I like animals.

As for alleged health risks, I'm fairly certain that the 8 litres of Coke, 20 pints of coffee, ounce and a bit of rolling tobacco and varying amounts of biscuits that I consume every week will get me long before sitting down to an oversized steak will.

You Sir, are a freak. If god didn't want us to eat pigs he wouldn't have made them out of bacon.

Oddly enough polished off rather large steak tonight.

Less than 8 quid for a kilo of sirloin.

Speaking of meat, there's a controversy over something called 'pink slime':

Internet Users Flock To Google Search To Learn About 'Pink Slime'

    But what is pink slime?

Well, it's the left overs of cattle -- the spare beef trimmings treated with ammonium hydroxide to kill bacteria like E. coli and salmonella. Gerald Zirnstein, a former United States Department of Agriculture scientist, is a whistleblower who has spoken out against pink slime for years -- in fact, he coined the term in 2002 while working for the USDA. "Pink slime" is otherwise known as "lean fine textured beef."
U.S. defends treated meat dubbed "pink slime" in school meals

The Internet news source The Daily reported this week that 7 million pounds (3.2 million kg) of the product -- beef trimmings treated partly with ammonium hydroxide to fight contamination -- would appear in school lunches this spring.
Sounds like something out of Dragon Quest...

I've read enough about what they can get away with in meat production stateside to know that if I ever go there, I will be vegetarian for the duration.

It's hardly the fault of the Harvard chaps and chapettes that when the study was initiated, there was slightly less health hysteria/endless DM/DE articles about cancer.

Oxygen is toxic above a certain pressure, or so I'm told.

IIRC that's the reason divers breathe it mixed with helium (I think) in their tanks.

Under most definitions of the word, high concentrations of oxygen are also considered to be explosive, I think.

I really wish you could get cheapish Ostrich meat here. It's a lovely dark red meat, very tasty, low in fat, and full of goodness.

They're out of stock of Ostrich, but you can get pretty much everything from Bison to Zebra.

I'd love to do some sort of A-Z of meat/food challenge. A different letter each day, rather than all at once.

A few places near me you can get Ostrich. I never thought it was particularly expensive, but maybe I wasn't paying attention.

Python is a bit expensive isn't it. Ł45 for a 500g pack. Might be worth breeding a few....
