Both games have voice acting in the novel sections for all but the main character. :)

Ah, think I'm getting mixed up here - I know the EU Vita version won't have English language voice-acting, is it the same for the EU 3DS version?

Plus the US 3DS version has that bug (not that we can import anyway), hopefully that won't be in the EU version...

This is all part of Zero's plan, isn't it? Having to make tough choices even before we've bought the game.

All EU versions have only Japanese voice acting; all US versions have both Japanese and English. :)

RSG said they're working on making sure the bug's fixed before they release the EU 3DS version.

I'm having such a great time with this. I especially love how Alice's response when she betrays you is pretty much 'So what? Big deal' but when someone betrays her she is furious and won't let it go. :D

Ah, damn. One quick random question (that might actually be a deal-breaker for me): can the text be sped up at all, to keep up with the VA?

Urk! just read this over on Destructoid:

I've got good news and bad news.

The good news is that, after more than 30 hours of play time, I've finally finished Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. Expect the review later in the week.

The bad news is that there is a game-ending bug in the 3DS version that can completely corrupt your save file under certain circumstances. According to this thread on NeoGAF, if you attempt to save during the "PEC" or "Crew's Quarters" puzzle rooms, your game will crash and you will be forced to start the entire game over from the beginning. The existence of this bug in other puzzle rooms has not been confirmed, so you should ideally refrain from saving within any puzzle section. As long as you only save during the novel sections, you should be fine.

Having played the 3DS build myself, I can corroborate the existence of such a defect. However, since my crash occurred after saving the game at the end of a particular story branch and not while I was in a puzzle room, my file was thankfully not damaged. If you happen to get booted to the main 3DS menu and are greeted by an error message, try to reload your save as soon as possible to assess any damage.

Vita players need not worry, as this bug apparently only affects the 3DS version. It apparently plagued the original Japanese build and was brought over without being fixed by developer Spike Chunsoft. Publisher Aksys has not yet announced any plans for a patch, but I'm holding out hope.
Hopefully they fix/patch it for the EU version...

@Kay There are three options for the text:
Stop - you advance the text yourself, either by tapping the screen or pressing a button
Auto - no need to tap
Skip - can only be used if it's text that you've read before (including text duplicated between different routes) and fastforwards until it gets to the next bit you haven't read

Hope that's what you were asking! :)

Thanks - I did see those options in the demo, but I was thinking more in line of a speed that actually keeps up with the VA. Otherwise the VA line comes first before the text has finished scrolling, which I find a little off-putting. Obviously couldn't explore these options in the demo as it's Japanese VA only. :)

The text and speech are pretty close together in the English version, in my opinion.

Nope, there isn't. You have to pick either English or Japanese each time you load your save file.

Take it your copy didn't arrive today then? :/

    Haha :)

I traded in a couple of games yesterday for Assassin's Creed III. This was with the knowledge of both Halo and this arriving. Idiot!

I wonder what the reasoning behind removing the English voice over was. I bet it was something stupid, like an actor stipulating in their contract their voice could only be used in the US.

I'm also for supporting the local publisher, especially as RSG have given me many hours of joy over the years, but when it's missing something substantial like this ... :/ Especially as I'm not particularly fond of the Japanese voices here, or rather they're just standard Japanese voices to me, which I cannot particularly appreciate or not. A good English voice track, otoh, would certainly make the game better for me.

I was wondering if it was to save money, but then they would be likely to sell more copies with an English dub, so I really have no idea. It could be something daft, like you suggest.

And, as much as I like RSG, that is pretty much my reason for buying the US version. I'm now 15 hours in and I do think that the English voice track has definitely added something to the game. They've done a very good job with it.

Crap, you're almost making me import this... almost.

I probably won't buy it immediately after it launches here anyway, as I won't be playing it anytime soon. So maybe I'll import this sometime down the line. :-)

Played the demo this evening. Really enjoyed it, although the puzzles seemed pretty tough. Can't imagine what they'll be like on Hard :/

While the game looked great on the Vita, I can see the advantage of being able to use a stylus for note-taking. Might have to stick to an ol' fashioned pen and paper :)

I have found the on-screen note taking fine for most puzzles but I've done some of the puzzles that require a bunch of writing down and figuring out using a pencil and a scrap of paper. I quite like doing it that way.

Finally got a chance to play this, and I was surprised that it's such an old school adventure game. Reminds me of games like Ripper. Voices are well done, especially the insane you know what.

I got my first 'proper' ending last night (I've got quite a few locks and game overs) - it's the third one along on the save screen. My spoiler tag below is for this ending.

Dio claims to be a forth generation clone from a nutty religious cult terrorist group. But he also believes in the global pandemic, which I have yet to be convinced of, so I don't particularly trust in what he says. I do hope he's got some false memories or something as a forth generation clone does seem a little 'ehhhhh??' compared to everything else. I already got the file for the group so I knew they had some connection but cloning?... I'm not convinced that's the end of the group's involvement, either... Zero didn't try to stop Dio apparently infiltrating the game and also knew at least his name.

At the moment I also think that Alice and Luna might have killed themselves from Radical-6 madness, but I'm not sure Alice's position corresponds with this.

Come across a temperamental puzzle that requires tilting the Vita - don't suppose there's anyway to turn that off is there? Not sure how the puzzle would work otherwise...

Means I can't play on the commute if these things pop up often...
