I've found an awesome weapon called the Glaive beam, it does 4 damage in a line you draw across the enemy. Takes an absolute age to charge (24 secs!) but is well worth the wait. My usual plan is to fire out a drone to whittle down the shields and two Rock crew teleport in to take out the weapons, then a blast across the ship with the Glaive. Awesome. Needs good level of shielding to withstand the initial bombardment while I'm waiting for the charge though.

The Osprey, really? I was quite looking forward to trying it, has some extra weapon or something.

Cloak really is the tits, especially with the cloaked weapons upgrade. Was that more than anything that helped me tear thru the boss.

The Idle Thumbs play through has been a handy primer. I got to the boss on my first Easy run. Didn't have the firepower to punch through the shields though. I was smart enough to send a dude around my ship when blinded by a nebula though and discovered many a fire/breach.

I was having delightful fun with a Burn Laser. The slugs in one encounter informed me they were going to burn us alive. They never broached my shields and I took delight in watching them scurry from port to starboard and back as I lit alternating fires on their vessel. What's that? You want to heal up in your medbay? Have some refreshing FIRE.

    Hahahahahahahahahahajahaha!

Between this and Black Mesa, I've been having a hard time concentrating on either. Two sublime games in a day? Amazing.

1172 is my top score so far. It's a bit soul destroying when you build up a badass ship only for it to get dicked.

    I proper love this game

Just got to the boss and won the first match up but sustained too much damage to beat him in the second round.

Have an Engi ship run through going now. Although I don't quite understand ion weapons. No hull damage but they can shut down systems, right?

Yes. Use that to take out shields or weapons, use drones to do some actual hull damage.

Best score so far: 1348 in the Kestrel.

    Edit: Not-so-high scores!

Yeah that's right. I had an ion weapon and two anti-ship drones, which is just evil. The drones make short work of any shields, then whatever systems the drones damage just target those systems with the ion weapon to prevent them fixing it. :)

Well, until I ran out of drone parts, then I was a sitting duck as I had no means at all of damaging enemy ships. :(

I think from now on I'll always keep one laser as backup rather than selling them all for peanuts.

Well pleased with my score of 348 on my second run (on Easy - steady now, I'm a slow learner).

The USS Voyager perished after Chakotay died fighting off an intruder, Bellana burnt alive in the engine room and Janeway choked to death because of lack of oxygen - I couldn't repair it in time.

I think an auto self-destruct (5 sec c/down) button would be a cool addition if it's all going to shit.

A real good, night-time game imo.

CGA... now those were proper graphics. 4 colours and I'm pretty sure 2 of them were purple.
Yeah it is, but I didn't even think to look at the system requirements since my PC is happy running modern FPSs and this is pretty primitive in comparison.
Well I've managed to prod my graphics card into pretending my monitor is big enough, so I can play! No time now though. Booooo.
What sort of pc/laptop/netbook are you playing on the resolution is relatively small for a pc?

Also been playing this game for hours today. Got to the end game just the now and got the crap kicked out of my poor wee ship

My top is around 1800, but that's without actually finishing the damn thing. That last boss is bastard hard. I've found it's well worth doing everything possible to delay the rebels (paying mercenaries, flying through nebula etc) so you get more leeway to grind and really beef up your ship. If the average ships you're facing off against eclipse your own in upgrades, you're doing it wrong somewhere.

Amazing game, probably my game of the year. It reminds me a hell of a lot of Weird Worlds too, which is no bad thing. WW is like a 10 minute version of this, effectively.

That said, I did encounter a game killing bug where it generator a sector that was impossible to advance from - you could only go back and forth between three different systems, all the others were out of reach. Blah.

I beefed my ship up to be an impregnable fortress, only to be boarded and all my crew unceremoniously butchered.

Haha, yeah, I've had that. Ship with level 4 shields and amazing weaponry, then 4 mantises beam in and wreck the fuck out of my puny crew.

I've developed a boarding tactic of sitting people in an upgraded sickbay and having one Engli lurk in a far corner and run around fixing damage after they've moved on to a different room. It seems to work well (boarders get slaughtered in sickbay as the crew heals more than they can damage them), providing they don't take out your shields and fuck you royally in the meantime.

Anti ship drones, cloak and cloaked weapons give you a nice head start.

Oooh this is a bit good isn't it? I've resisted playing on easy mode as I like to suffer in these games. I'm picking far too many fights though, trying to be the hero of every situation.

Think my best score is about 130!

If you're feeling brave you can also use some of your ship weapons against yourself as anti-boarder weapons, things like bombs. Anti-personnel drones help too.

Top score for me so far is 2458 on normal, using the Kestrel.

What ships are worth having? I've got the Stealth and Engi ships but not very fond of either for differing reasons, so I keep going back to the Kestrel

The Zoltan ship having a built in shield is pretty nice, recharges on jump only so you need to upgrade your main shield too.
