I have been waiting for this, saving my pennies like a good boy, but looks like I'm going to need more than I expected

Registered 10 years agoSo. Expensive.
I have just read that Canon are going to keep the Mk2 model as a lower entry point to full frame, so I think I'm just going to pick one of those up... I can get that and 2 good lenses for the price of the Mk3! -

Registered 8 years agoIt's £1k more than the mk2 launch price! Calumet aren't particularly cheap though, so may be able to shave a couple of hundred off somewhere. Asia import might be an option. -

Yes lots got my mk2 from them plus various lenses, no problem. Only thing to watch out for is they used to guarantee no import tax, not sure if they still do.

Registered 10 years agoYeah, I just noticed the import tax thing. They say import tax is completely your liability. Any idea what % it adds to purchases? -

That's right folks, this isn't a replacement for the Mark II, but rather an updated variant meant to sit between the workhorse of four years and the company's soon to arrive EOS-1D X.
hmmm

I think, without googling it, that it's the same as VAT, so 20% which more than likely would destroy any saving on buying abroad. So you really need to find a no import tax guarantee.

I've got an interview with a photo agency this afternoon, if that goes well maybe I'll get one of these, flog my 7D and have a 5D MKII & III. Oh yeah. -

Registered 4 years agoWell this will please the girl I'm dating no end who I took shopping so she could buy herself a new Mark II just last week!
Mind you; this will cost a fair bit more and that's without factoring in that she got the 24-105 lens with the body so I imagine that'll ease the pain a bit. -

Registered 10 years agoIt is lovely and fixes all of those little issues that take something away from the mark2, but £3K!? That is just crazy. I am (reluctantly) out.

What issues are those exactly? I must admit, from reading the specs it doesn't seem like THAT much of a leap from the MkII. I guess the extra 2 stops in ISO would be very beneficial, but for another £1500 that seems steep. What else /really/ warrants the added cost for you lot?

What's your thoughts on the 7D vs 5DMkII btw? How do they compare for ISO performance/low light stuff?
Seem to be some pretty furious arguments on the rest of the net... -

Registered 8 years agoWell the 7d is my back up and in pretty much all circumstances I use the 5dii as my primary. Better in low light and full frame which my minds eye image crop is set for. If that makes sense.
I do like the 7D though, it's got better focusing options, a nice build quality and the crop is useful for distant subjects. I think the AF is better than the 5D but I've not tested it rigorously, just a feeling. -

Registered 10 years agoOk, good, that pretty much confirms what I expected. Some fanboys were saying the 7D ISO performance was better than the MkII, but impartiality wins through again. -

Registered 11 years agoBeen to the Focus on imaging show at the NEC today and and had a go on the mark 3.
It is lovely. Seems better in every way. Just something about the way it feels lifts it up above the mark2. And the focusing is mental - very good - a world away from the mark 2.
That said can't afford it until a few more weddings come in.
Did get myself a lens I've been lusting after for many moons though - 135 f2. Lovely!
Well worth a trip if you get the chance. -

I think it has kind of been answered, and most things I have issues with on the mark2 are minor to say the least (and don't warrant the extra £1500), and they are mostly personal wants for how I use the camera if that makes sense.
The AF isn't amazing, that isn't to say it is bad, but there is always a feeling it is not quite up to speed.
Never thought I would want two memory card slots, but it would actually be really useful for when I am out with the family (one for jpeg so the wife can upload stuff, the other for RAW). I know I can save both now on one card now, but I find the files getting mixed up messy (weird I know), so I dont use it.
I would like more FPS. Having come from the 40D, I do miss the high speed sometimes.
Um...I am sure there are other things like button placement, AutoISO can now have a set min shutter speed, Liveview appears more useable, 100% viewfinder...
Struggling now. I do love my camera it has to be said, and I never thought I would be even vaguely tempted by the Mark3. -

Was a good show this year - little bit quieter than the last couple of years. Lot of new products to play with which is always nice. -

I just asked for a quote from Clifton Cameras to see if a trade was out of the question. They offered me £750.
A trade is well and truly out of the question! -

Registered 8 years agoyeah you are never going to get a good deal trading in. Better off selling on ebay or the like. MKII's have held their price well mine was about £1750-850, at launch.

Registered 4 years agoYes, Focus on Imaging at NEC. £1399 is lowest I've ever seen it priced. Must admit I thought the II was about £2500 when it launched. -
Oh, duh. Misread the NEC bit.
Ok, so I've found a second hand 5DMk2 for sale £300 cheaper than I can find elsewhere. Is it a bit of a false-economy though? Or would I be better off stumping up for a brand new one?
I have a slight paranoia that the actuation count is going to be high and the shutter fail on me. Would be an expensive chunk of metal then... -
