Well keep in mind that I get inundated with dungeon crawlers over here like you guys get inundated with FPSes over there. So its entirely possible that part of the reason I feel its starting to get old is because it has A LOT of competition, some of which feel a lot more fresh (Unchain Blades, Wizman's World, Dams & Dungeons or Elminage, for example) than Etrian, which used to be the very best you could get. Maybe it won't have that problem when Western players get their hands on it.

Elminage does look good - I'd love a PSN release for it so I could play it on the Vita. Can't wait for EOIV - was it only the first that got released over here? III certainly didn't.

Just want a Demon Gaze western localisation now and I'll be in grindy dungeon crawly heaven.

Why do you want Demon Gaze?

Has it not been well received then? I just liked the look of it (if not necessarily the art style!).

I like it. :p Only about halfway through but it would have to do something pretty awful to make me dislike it now.

I enjoyed UnchainBlades Rexx for about 15-20 hours, but the follower fights became too much of a slog with relatively little benefit for my actual fighting party. Currently enjoying Demon Gaze, albeit only when indoors, as it plays quickly, has lots of skills and loot, and varies things up without becoming antagonistic. The story stuff is bollocks, though, and the artwork is pretty shameful. Hopefully Experience's next release is a bit less heavy on that stuff.

I really liked the first three quarters or so of Soul Hackers, too, as that game presents a decent challenge while also giving you tools to deal with it. The runs to the first save point in each area while trying not to die to a strong enemy or an unexpected instant death (being able to defend against only one of the two types) were really tense and fun. Great music and sound effects really helped - there's one hit sound effect which reminds me of the classic hit effects in Streets of Rage 2.

I just stopped playing Etrian 4 during the second main area. I think maybe I've been spoiled by the games which give you a good chunk of skills early on and having to watch just normal attacks in random battles became a bit much.

Physical manuals, they have (well EOIV does anyway) 'online manuals' still. Seems odd to get free bonus music CDs and art pamphlets and then lose the manual...

I still have to get around to finishing the third one, I will be buying a 3DS purely for this game.

ShopTo are calling August for this now. Their pre-order has now dropped to sub-30 if anyone's interested?

Arg, the game card must have got nudged. All that beautiful mapping that I'm going to have to redo...

Incidentally, the latest plot twist has brought back memories of the first Rani story in Doctor Who. I keep wanting to say, "Well, he'll live longer.". :p

There's not an Etrian Odyssey variant of Mr Resetti is there? ;-)

The remake of EO has just been announced for US release this year, and we still don't have a precise date for EOIV. Sadface.

I am pretty interested in the remake. I presume the (sparse) plot is the same, albeit more detailed and with more named characters. But now you're making me feel guilty. ;)

On a side note, petrification in the EO series can be so evil. :p

Yes, you should feel very guilty :-) Petrification does suck, but I love that it rarely makes my top ten of things I'm terrified of in an EO game!

Still no release date for this then, sob... still, does mean I have more time to play Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing.

According to the 3DS record system I spent well over 80 hours playing EO IV. :o It's a good game that is worth the wait... however long that is... :/

Millennium Girl is out this week in Japan, and there's a demo on the eshop. I haven't played it enough to judge it, but to hear the EO1 music with an orchestral arrangement is weird.

I hope we get Millenium Girl at some point too, it would give me a reason to play through EO1 again.

I never got round to playing EO, the second one was my first game - the end bosses (the bosses after the end that is) were too tough for me, same with number 3 although I am powering up my retired team back up to 70 to take on the dragons.

    Too many time sink games...

I tried the first post-game dragon a few times, but I'm not sure I'm going to defeat it with my current team (it does attacks that hit everyone and are double their health), so I've moved on to DS: Overlocked now. :)
