    Just curious how many EGers are in or around Oxford? (City Centre)

    I see threads mentioning other locations but rarely Oxford.

    It would be cool to find REAL gamer friends here.

    Why would you actually want to have "REAL" game friends anyway? Wasn't XBL/PSN/whatever invented so you can have them without the smell and leers and clumsy attempts at seduction?

    I can honestly say that everytime I open my mouth to say something online I am presented with litterally 2 possible outcomes.

    1) Sexist
    ie.
    - Get in the Kitchen, make me a sammich biatch!

    - A female gamer! Do you need help? I'll protect you/won't shoot you.

    2) Flirting
    ie.
    ZOMG! A female gamer!
    Any pics?
    Vision Cam/Kinect?
    Can see boobs plz?


    At least if said idiot is physically there I can punch them for stereotyping/assuming!

    @EffEmmGee - if you're getting those sorts of comments you really are playing with the lowest common denominator. Do you happen to play a lot of CoD by any chance or are those sorts of comments prevalent no matter what sorts of game you play?

    Do psychokitten/local etc have this sort of trouble I wonder? Can't say I've noticed it when I've been in parties with them before but I guess it must have happened at some point?

    Other than my name my Live Profile doesn't scream 'girl'. I'd say my tag is non-gender-specific too.

    I mainly play campaign in all my games, the fact that a game has multiplayer is not a selling point for me.
    I do enjoy MP on occasion and I do sometimes play CoD (also Gears, Forza, Pinball, NFS, F1, or whatever takes my fancy), but yes I get those comments regardless of the game, unless I remain silent, then I get accused of being ignorant and sometimes get booted.

    I can't win.

    I've had good convos in pre-arranged games with shamblemonkee & co. but I'm so used to keeping my mouth shut I kinda come across as anti-social (I'm not, quite friendly actually...with a few screws loose!)

    I've been ONLINE gaming since 2003ish (not a PC gamer) so have put up with it for a long time.

    I don't really want this thread turning into a debate though. I'm not a female games who is all for girl power or anything, I couldn't care less if i play against guys or girls.

    To hijack this thread, I was thinking of moving to Oxford. I teach so I'd be on about 22k. Then I looked at house prices. HOW DO YOU PEOPLE LIVE!?

    Not being mic-ed in public lobbies helps to avoid it, but yes, it's often there if you say anything that identifies you as female. Staying neutral in comment helps to maintain the illusion of being a teenage boy instead. Lobby mute buttons are usually the best way forward if discovered and abused - any reaction is attention to those idiots. Although sometimes it's just fun to let them run on, until it gets relentless.

    I posted on the OXM years ago, 99% of my posts on there got abuse and the mods were useless (even the higher-ups, such as Talbot, couldn't care less)

    I agree that I shouldn't have to hide, which is why I don't. I just don't draw attention to myself either...or try not to.
    And no there are no voice changers as far as I'm aware.

    Don't have much issue other than from ransoms in MP lobbies, but who cares what they say?

    But I (despite the retardo gamertag) don't identify myself in games or boards as female for the most part because it isn't really relevant. It's the same on any gaming board, if you start a thread an announce you're female, the thread breaks. Same for putting it in the profile.

    All I can suggest is to go to the EG Expo and meet people there, we're not all serial killers. Well, I am, but you'd never know, I swear. I'm not in Oxford.
