Wouldn't want to smell those farts.

Hunter/gatherers existed on something like 80/20 grains and fruit/animal meat. Healthy buggers they were too.

You'd need some vitamin C in there unless you want to develop scurvy.

I'm pretty sure that eating only one thing, no matter how healthy that one thing might be, would fuck you up pretty good.

Well that's the question. Is there one thing, or 2 or 3 things that could sustain you and allow you to lead a healthy life.

Let's forget about the mental side of things.

i heard you could live on nothing but wheat grass, and it is the most nutritional thing on the planet.

    true or false?
It only has tiny amounts of protein in it and no fat so I think you'd die pretty quickly. Lots of vitamins are fat soluble so they're not digestible on their own I think.

Apparently there's Vit C in the fats of some cold-water fish....or something - just ask the Eskimos, no limes there mate.

ok, so you'd need some variation. i think everyone knows that.

but is it still the most nutritional thing there is?
That's not the challenge we're facing.

Sorry. I just get annoyed at the suggestion that humans are herbivores.

Bacon is the greatest food ever created.

Bacon bits on a salad make the salad ten times better.

    Therefore mankind is omnivorous. QED.
Bacon bits for salad frequently contain no meat!

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

    it's a pretty nonsensical question.

but i'd guess all you'd need is a meat, a fruit, a vegetable and some oaty stuff and some green stuff.

of course you could live on kebabs for 50 years also, so...
yeah well, a kebab isn't a "food", it's a gathering of various ingredients. There might be an ingredient in there we don't need.

I'm not sure you could live on potato for 50 years. Vitamins aside, the brain needs some oil/fat to run, doesn't it?

Also, check out Rabbit Starvation for fun ways to eat yourself to death.

alright. you could live on raw potatoes for 50 years.

the question still doesn't make sense.
No you can't, down the line you'd develop some illness or condition as a result of a lack of some nutrients which the potato doesn't have.

Let's use Vit C as an example. And let's say the potato provides EVERYTHING your body needs except Vit C. You'd develop scurvy if you just lived on potatoes. So therefore, a diet of potatoes and limes would be sufficient to lead a healthy life.

We now know you only need 2 foods to survive and thrive.

Sport, are you trying to find a way to survive purely on protein shakes or something?

I think I'm going to have to mentally revise my impression of how many people could survive getting their own food in the event of civilization collapse.
