Unfortunately it's not as Christmassy as that, but you unlock Alex Kidd as a racer

Just picked this up yesterday and could not put it down. The tracks are awesome, especially for someone who has followed sega for ages (new advert). Online is flawless as well even with racers. Although I have only played for a few hours this is a definite 10/10 from me, I am at work and literally cannot wait to get home and have another go

    edit
Also. Is tbere a way to race with your avatar?

Yes, but you have to unlock your avatar as a char to race with.

If you're on 360, add me for online races and laptime scoreboard if you want, gt: richardtron

Shame this has seemingly bombed, it deserves the success of any Mario Kart

It's a little too rushed in my opinion. If they focused on making the tracks feel more unique, rather than just look different, it would be a damn good game. They've nailed the difficulty, which is something Mario Kart should take note of.

This makes me want a new Diddy Kong Racing more than anything, though. That is, by some margin, the all-time greatest kart game.

The power up system in Diddy Kong Racing let it down, you could get the same weapons in first just as easily as you could in last. This doesn't make it a level playing field as the person in 1st hardly has to deal with being hit by other people's weapons like the rest of the pack.

You need more powerful weapons to be slanted towards players lower down positions in karting games, otherwise the person in 1st will zoom off ahead without getting hit and the rest of the racers will never get out of the mid-pack melee. It's why the blue-shell is a necessary evil in Mario Kart, you either have that or give the people in 2nd and 3rd ample supplies of triple red shells.

I ordered this earlier tonight for the amazingly cheap price of 3,accounting for an Amazon voucher I got for Christmas. I'll be skidding around on the PS3 version probably in about a week, so if anyone wants to race against me sling a friend request to Telminator-2. I tend to be online most nights after 10pm for an hour or two.

Absolutely loving the remixed Sonic R tunes on the Sonic the Hedgehog tracks on this. Played the shit outta that game back in the Saturn days.

Holy crap this game has suddenly gotten hard!

Moved onto Hard diff now in order to get a few more stars for unlocks, and I swear to god the AI colludes against you and outright cheats. It took me literally over 20 attempts to beat the 2nd career race due to the endless stream of cheaty bs the game always threw at me on the last lap.

None of it is helped by the sudden harsh change of the success parameter to 'finish 1st'. Fuck me you've risen the difficulty by a ton already, is that really necessary Sumo? Christ.

This is going to be a ball-breaking grind...

I felt the same after moving to hard. The ring races were a nightmare on normal difficulty

I've not been able to play for the last 3 weeks due to buggering up my hand but I played it on hard from the start, completed 18 career races (going through in order), and only had to restart 3 of those. Admittedly one of them took about five attempts (the rings mode; I came close the first four times but realised on the fifth that you had a boost. I hadn't seen that before as you don't pick anything up), but that's it.

As long as you've got the right pick up, you can always get out of trouble. Unlike Mario Kart (well, you can even in that, but it's more stacked against you spamming you with blue shells one after the other).

I'm wondering if there's a link between that and the reason your hand is crippled?

Because that's not a sacrifice I'd be too happy about. Just saying :)

It was only the drift challenges that gave me much trouble on hard, expert S class is a nightmare though!

However, the grand prix mode doesn't seem tough at all on Expert, I won the first two pretty comfortably despite fucking up massively on some races.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

Boost challenges are my problem at the mo. Can't do the first one on expert yet. My only missing star in the first section.

Unfortunately not. I fell down the staris (sober) day before Christmas Eve. Have completely snapped the 4th metacarpal, with nine fractures. No gaming for me for ages.

I fixed the three dislocations myself, although in doing so I think I was responsible for one of the fractures! :o)

Could be 20 weeks. Already rocking gently in the corner.

    *sighs*

I love this eye-poppingly gorgeous game ... on easy.

From medium/normal onwards, the fun disappears far too quickly for my liking.

Why did SUMO feel the need to increase the difficulty ten-fold?

All my joyful enthusiasm towards this in the first hour (or thereabouts) is totally gone.
