Don't you just need 2 memory sticks for different save slots? Different accounts on each. It's annoying, but seems the way things are going.

Does anyone know if Wipeout requires a memory card to run?

Can you invite your friends race against them online?

Can't seem to find any option.

So what kind of control set up is everyone using?

From the off i've completely turned off pilot assist, and i'm playing with the 'Wipeout' control method. Using the d-pad for steering too.

It's pretty good so far, din't expect it to handle this well, what with the reduced framerates and talk of the wider tracks.

Wipeout control scheme (with the separate air brakes etc) is the proper way to play it I guess, so I've not tried the other options.

Just gone for my first spin, and wow! I think I was more impressed with being able to play Uncharted on a handheld since the PSP Wipeout games were so good, but still. Amazing.

Haha, it has been such a long time since I played a WipeOut game, I forgot there are two airbrakes. No wonder I'm stuck at that mall level where I have to finish sixth place or higher. Must try this tonight with proper control scheme.

I do see what reviewers mean when talking about the clutter onscreen at times. It is almost impossible to see corners...

Has anybody else been unable to get multiplayer working in this game? I keep getting "error conencting to the server". Tried re installing to no avail.

I'm not sure if it's specific to Wipeout but I can download fine from the store.

Love this game, didnt realise you can change the controls but I'll stick to 'mong' settings if indeed thats what Im on. Always found the double air brakes etc on PS3 a bit difficult to get my head round.

Already got the bug of trying to beat other peoples times on levels but it should really tell you when youve beaten them. I go to the notifications, see someones beat me, go to the level and try and beat them but then when youve completed it it doesnt show you the high score table again and its not so easy to go and find which level you've just played on the map.

I won my first online race last night, very smooth and no issues in about 4 games. Love gurning for the camera and submitting just before the race starts :D

One thing I do find a little fiddly control-wise is using thrust and firing weapons at the same time. The X and Square buttons aren't that big so I often lose a bit of thrust when I fire something.

Yeah I change controls back to racer for the combat events because of that.

I love it, although I do agree it can get too cluttered. The zone mode and time trials are best, the combat events in this are a bit too much of a clusterfuck for my liking.

I always like to submit my best trollface for the Combat events, so when I blow them up they have my ugly mug staring right back at them :)

anyone else having problems with wipeout crashing on startup just after login in to psn? it shows an error like error c2-something-something. psn overload?
  • Deleted user 24 February 2012 14:13:54
    @brn

Similar yes, it crashes but continues to the main screen for me where I can play singleplayer but it kicks me out everytime I try and play online.

Anyone know if you can turn off the notifications during races? Don't know if it's just me but it's a little distracting, racing at 5 zillion miles an hour when a box pops up at the corner of the screen.

@SouperMatt - Probably obvious, but I've just downloaded Wipeout and was prompted to download an update patch from the main menu screen - about 36Mb

    Fiat Lux

@Lotos8ter - Yea got that cheers, still no joy :(

A quick google suggests the problem isn't isolated so thats both good and bad news I suppose.

    Least it aint just me.

Just got a reply from one of the devs at Sony Liverpool on twitter. We can race with mates via party app or community screen.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/#!/drstulovegrove

@BeardyBrave you can join your mates in online races by using the community screen and via the party app btw ...

@BeardyBrave just tap your friend in the community screen (if they are already in an online race ) and you'll join them in the lobby ..

How do friend ghosts work in this? I saw a video before Wipeout launched where it pulled in ghost data then once you beat that time it automatically downloads the next. Made getting a 3g model very appealing but for the life of me i only have the standard campaign and the multi player campaign.

On a semi related note, i am not sure on this multi player much rather have a race browser type thing like in HD. Because whenever i want to join its always in a 'race in progress' and have no idea how long they have left. Also how do you join friends or invite friends.

Played this in a shop today, it's bloody impressive, but Wipeout always is.

there's an article about this on the eurogamer front page. apparently we should tweet @wipeout2048 with our psn names and how the issue plays out.

Wipeout looks amazing and plays brilliantly. While I think it still falls short of HD+Fury, I'm loving it.

    Not tried online yet, though

I have found the friend ghosts thing. Its part of the 'Speed Laps' you unlock after completing the 2048 season.

Was wondering why couldnt find it, it was unlocked yet.

    @Bravearse
Sorry my bad, was just being a bit stupid.
