    Loving the combat challenges.
You see, I've always preferred the racing to the weapons and always found combat focused modes a pain. Yet they've got something right here, as I've been pounding away desperate to get the trophy for 100 points in the one of the early major side challenges. Got so close with 91, then 96, 97 then nailed it with 108. The scoring has been properly refined and there's not a desperate need to destroy (although it helps a bunch!); as long as you're maintaining the challenge your score will continue to rise.

Better than Mario Kart has ever been ;-)
See, I'm really struggling with the combat challenges - finding it tough to even get the basic pass. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Also - I've apparently opened a hidden challenge, but can't find it....? Any ideas?

A class is insane, but as with B class stick with it and you will get used to the speed.... but prepare yourself for a few 'this is impossible/quitting in disgust moments' Dreading reaching A class though!

All hidden challenges are there presented as branches from the straight path (hope tht makes sense :/).

Mess with the ships. Choose the Qirex fighter (or equivalent) for the combat races. Green pads, absorb everything for health (if needed) except leach beam, and for yellow maximise your accuracy with the pulse shot, and pray your get quake :D Aside from that, its not about speed, make sure yu hit as many weapon pads as possible and make the shots count. Once it clicks, you're loving it.

Yup, hang back at the start of the race, let the pack kick the shit out of each other (since their score doesn't matter to you but their shield strength does), launch your weapon on the first decent straight, the weakened ships might score you a kill.

Try to keep tabs on the other vehicles with the proximity indicator (if there's a ship behind you, slow before a weapon pick up, let it pass you, hit it if you have a weapon, collect the weapon pick up and try to hit it again).

If you get a Quake, accelerate ahead of the pack, turn and hit them all. As Rauha says, once it clicks, it's awesome. Think i like the combat mode the most now!

Zoom the screen out and scroll it around slowly, eventually you should see a slight suggestion of a pile of triangles hanging off the side of an existing event, but it won't move (unlike the random ones that pop up). Give it a tap; Robert is your mother's brother.

@neems The ones that pop up in the background aren't random, they're your fingers on the rear touch pad.

That's how I managed to find the hidden challenges - run your finger over the back of the Vita, and the areas that wont rise have an event in them.

Ahhhhhhhhh lol. Never twigged (obviously), just highlights my problem with the back panel - I had to turn it off in FIFA because every time I got into the final third of the pitch I would shoot by mistake.

That is kinda cool though (the WipeOut one I mean).

Woohoo! Finally nailed the first TT trophy challenge for an elite pass. And in typical fashion, when I did it, I did it by a clear 4 seconds.

Love this. Shame it feels a bit... Streamlined? Compared to Pulse that is.

Also, I'm gutted - NO F***ING GOTEKI *SADFACE*

This game is seriously perfect for playing on the train! My Vita somehow ended up needing a hard reset, withdrawing me from the 18 hole international tournament in EG that I'd started so I started playing Wipeout and was impressed at how I could play a race between every station. Nearly forgot to get off the train mind you, but still perfect bite sized chunks.

Eat 1 out of every three of the machine gun thingies to get your shield back up, they arent that good, on the levels with a long stretch with several weapons pads just use the weapon in quick succession to use all three and if you get one of those big lightning ball things wait until you are on a straight, slow down and get two or three in front of you and fire it right down the middle. Those balls are the key to getting the big scores.

    ^^ Thanks for the tips

    Unlocked Altima and Sol today.

I was initially quite underwhelmed by the tracks, but these 2 are awesome. Sol is brutal, but brilliant!

    A Class is tough!

That's tactics-if you do the unexpected your opponents will never hit you. ;)

Tried the multiplayer last night and it's great fun. It still amazes me that I can play such smooth and good quality multiplayer on a handheld. Glad the photo thing was optional though, since I was playing in bed and didn't have any particular desire to share a picture of me in my nightie with complete strangers.

I thought you could race your ghost on the speed laps? I haven't done any since the day I unlocked them, so I'd have to check.

Speed laps definitely allow you to race your ghost (and I think possibly other people's as well).

How does the only campaign work? Think I'm going to get this today...

    Are the online problems resolved?

For any of you that got wipeout with the 3G vita, did you have to order the console itself through vodafone?

Nope, got mine from Game. You just have to buy a month's worth of 3G for from Vodafone for the sim card that came with it to get it, which costs 5.

Edit: I haven't had any problems with the online multiplayer, either. It's wifi only though.

Sweet, so I can buy from shopto, order 5 quid of credit from Vodafone and I get Wipeout. Result!

Cheers Santashi, you've been very helpful this morning ;)

I'm not trying to avoid my work, nooo. ;)

There should be a thread specifically about topping up and getting the Wipeout download, but from what I remember you go with the leftmost option on the page that the Vita app sends you to to top up properly.

    Edit: Can't type!

Completed the 2050 season today, plus all of the Elite Pass challenges. Now just to Elite pass all of the races :D

Found 2 prototype challenges, but nothing else so far...

Oh, and aside from personal satisfaction; any benefit in doing the speed laps?

Bought this tonight. One thing I'm confused about - how do you get out of the cross play menu after clicking it? Seems like there's no way back to the first menu where you pick single campaign etc.

Switched to classic Wipeout controls so I'm actually able to do the side shift and instantly got an elite pass in the first race of the 2049 season.

Loving this game. Didn't realise you could change the controls, so I might put it back to the Wipeout controls I'm used too, although holding X for a long time might be a little uncomfortable.
