@Gregolution Agreed. Never played MGS before, adored 2. Vita felt made for it. Touch screen menus were perfect. Currently on 3. Can't wait to play all of them!

I had played 2 ages ago but don't think I'd finished it. Was worried I'd played 3 but so far I don't recognise anything and it does look a huge leap forward from 2 in controls and graphics.

Playing this has drained all desire to play ac3 which I payed twice as much for....

MUST GET TO THIS. I think it's hiding behind my Persona 4 cartridge at the moment.

    Tits.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

It's funny, I've played MGS2 and Twin Snakes to completion, but I still find these games odd to control and play. 99 percent of the time someone spots me, then I take down everyone in the room and move on. Just always feels like I'm playing it wrong.

Am I right in remembering that MGS2 had no respawning guards unlike MGS1?

Is there a way to aim the AK without firing (like you can with the pistols)

Going to pick this up again, might as well restart, got only 2 hours in I think, want to play 3 because of all the talk about it but I'll go through 2 first.

Completed MGS1 last night for the first time on the vita. Prior to the past few weeks id never got past the second room, so glad to have finally ticked the Metal Gear Solid box as it were.

    Now onto MGS2 HD.

Should I play the tanker first?

    @el_pollo_diablo - Yes. Definitely.

Glad you enjoyed MGS. Not played it for the past 10 years of so, but might head back one day. How does it play/look on the Vita?

The textures are very low by todays standards but you only really notice how primitive the graphics are with the character models, as the environment itself is blocky and grimy anyway, so it almost adds to the effect. On top of that the lighting and animation are both fantastic, so overall it looks and feels very good for its age.

The control scheme has dated. In fact I'd wager it was shit back in the day too. But you get used to it. Likewise the back touch is a pain to start with, as you use it to access inventory etc, but once you realise that it's only a small zone on the back that replaces R1/R2, you adapt.

The acting though, bloody hell. I'm docking it a mark for how bad they all chew the scenery.

    7/10

    Thanks PS+ for this!

Pretty much as good as I remember, well 2 anyway, working my way through this. Didn't play much of 3 at all, so looking forward to that too.

Controls are taking a bit of getting used to! But its aged pretty well I'm my opinion. Enjoying it and even more so as it 'free' :-)

I'd never played much of 3 either.

All I'd say on that is persevere through the first hour or so, and then get ready for an amazing ride.

I'm hoping now it's free this thread will come alive again. I enjoyed reading people thoughts on the game almost as much as i enjoyed playing it. Great game

All I did was tap the weapon icon to unequip, then tap it again and you get a full mag back, or just finish the mag and press fire again and snake will reload on his own.

Looking forward to finally completing MGS3 controls are great on vita holding guards up and slicing their throats is weirdly satisfying using the rear touchpad

Dont kid yourself, Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, hed eat you and everyone you care about!

Tried the first 15 minutes of 2. Controls seem highly confusing.

Yeah two controls are dated for sure but you do get used to them. Stick with it

Urgh, I'd forgotten just how horrible the controls are - I love the MGS games but coming at these straight from Uncharted makes the control scheme seem positively archaic.

Will persever as MGS 3 is by far my favourite in the series. Buggered if I can remember where all the kerotans are though...

I can just about get used to the controls in normal gameplay on MGS2. But some of the boss fights suck epic volumes of arse.

MGS 2 plays better than what I remember it doing.

Much better actually and strangely more enjoyable.
  • Deleted user 19 March 2013 16:33:57
I played MGS2 well detached from the furore it caused upon release and I genuinely loved it. It's my fave MGS game by far - it leans into its ridiculousness in just the right way

I can't for the life of me, beat the Metal Gear Ray bosses. The best I've done is two in a row, but other than that nothing...
