This was announced a few weeks back and to me seems like a decent arcade racer in the mould of the old Destruction Derby games and the Virus / Tag gameplay modes from DiRT 3.

As long as they don't nueter the handling too much i'll b ekeeping my eyes on this one...

Arse, I was looking forward to this a lot more before reading that. Gymkhana ruined Dirt 3 for me :(

Well there's a Giantbomb quicklook of this going up today at 2pm their time.

    Portable view - Never forget.

So now they are making a Dirt game with 100 percent of the stupid crap and none of the rallying.

Does that mean we're going to get a proper rally game from Codemasters with none of this rubbish in?

This one is a spin off, along the same lines as EA did with NFS splitting it into serious and casual.

ha, was about to say that. Dirt: Rally.
Pure rallying, stages that last more than 1:30, please.

Surpsingly, though i am all for showdown, it could be a right laugh online. Too many games, specifically online games, take them selves too seriously.

One of the things I really enjoyed about Grid was the destruction derbies, there just wasn't enough of them.

    This space left intentionally blank.

looks fun. Already though a lot of people are seemingly missing the point with this one.

pricing of this game is going to be interesting.

@Maturin DiRT 4 is in development. whether it retians the xgame stuff still who knows. i'd hope they star tsplitting it out properly, ideally they'd make the numbered games pure rally like they were when they were badged as colim mcrae.

this just looks like being a total blast for online jinx.

    @Mr-Brett

just various comments on Game trailers, youtube etc dismising it already because its not a rally game, the old americanisation argument etc.

To be fair, i sort of instantly dismissed as well at first, but i have warmed quite a lot to these trailers.

The destruction mode was bare bones in Blur and that was atill a riot. This looks like a step up and i'm actually REALLY looking forward to jus tbeing able to legitimately smash up some cars :)

Could be a good laugh. Not sure it will have enough content to be a full-price game, but we'll see. Nobody seems to have picked up the Destruction Derby baton, so why not. Could be a bit too multiplayer-focussed for my liking.

The graphics look ok, though not as good as some other racers, tbh. I didnt like Burnout paradise, but nothing did car destruction like that thing.

    @joel

You made the fundamental mistake of reading comments :)
The Destruction Derby 'Rampage' stuff interests me, I can't say I like the 'rad, wicked, awesome, ken block' stuff if it means less of it in my proper rally games then I might be able to live with it being in this. I really wish they'd make the abomination that is gymkhana skippable though (I know they won't though).

Also did I mention that I don't like gymkhana, I feel like I didn't make that obvious ;)

    Portable view - Never forget.

haha, yeah i get really wound up reading comments, i shouldn't do it! . Especially as i moan at people for reading the express/mail (Sorry if you are a reader of both : ) for doing the same thing. It only make you angry!

I think Codemasters have got the message regarding awesome happenin' Ken Block and his bloody totally rad Gymkhana.

I suspect that they will arrange their game types in the same manner that EA have successfully done with Need for Speed.

Nicely saturated graphics, not much to the demo. Heavy handling and damage model doesn't have the same feel of destruction Destruction Derby had all those years ago. Will reserve judgement until final game.

So is their car damage in this? I know it was in Dirt but the trailers I have seen seem to suggest they have taken it out. I guess I am kind of hoping the game might be like a new Flatout but if it lacks car damage then I guess it won't be.

From my 1 play experience there is but very limited. I was looking for epic levels of destruction.

Ah that's a shame. That was the impression I got from the trailers. Maybe light cosmetic damage but nothing major.

Weird, as all the comms has been that there will be serious damage on the cars.

@shambles are you using your CSR with this, if so what game/wheel settings? Steering seems way too light (same in Dirt 3).

Anyone else with a Fanatec CSR care to post settings.

haven't tried it on the wheel yet, i just had a quick blast on the pad.

    enjoyed the demo, but ...

i wonder how varied, and how much content they have for a 40 pound game. I'm tempted to pick this up, but i don't think its going to maintain my interest for that long. I wished the demo had a race online mode as well.

I like the heaviness of the cars, seems suited to the game. damage was non existant, but wonder if that just the demo/cutting down on space etc.

Quite enjoyed the demo but what's the difference between this and Dirt 3 which I did miss out on but I'm sure isn't that old.

There's been little coverage so far, so my perception is this game is it's made up of events left over/not finished from Dirt 3 and put into a seperate game of there own... Am I missing something?
